SARAH WINS NATIONAL ATHLETICS AWARD: Congratulations to local girl Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC), who was presented with the Junior Athlete of the Year award, at the 2013 National Athletics Awards ceremony.
19-year-old Sarah put in the performance of her career in taking the silver medal for Ireland in the Women’s 100m Hurdles in a new national junior record of 13.34 seconds, at the Junior Track and Field Championships in Rieti, Italy, in July, improving her own record of 13.36 set in Cork earlier.
She competed against the top class field in this ever-technical event, and held off the Frenchwoman Heloise Kane (3rd in a PB of 13.36) for the silver medal. Coached by Noelle Morrissey and John Cleary, Sarah has been in sparkling form this season and the Limerick lady should be rightfully proud of the way she has continually improved this season. Sarah is the daughter of Ger and Emily Lavin, Newgarden, Lisnagry. Well done Sarah and best wishes for a very successful future.
