CHOIRS: “Stars, Choirs & Carols” have launched a nationwide appeal for choirs and choral societies to join in breaking the Guinness World Record for the most people singing Christmas Carols together in one location.

The event will take place in Croke Park Stadium on Thursday, December 19 between 7pm & 9pm and will be hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan. In addition to breaking the world record they are hoping to raise money on behalf of both www.clionasfoundation.comand www.sanctuary.ie. Choirs and choral societies will be singing for success along with Louis Walsh, The Army no 1 Band, The Dublin Gospel Choir, Celine Byrne & many, many more…… ”RTE will be recording the event and broadcasting a one hour special on Sunday, December 22 and The Oprah Magazine have been in touch to enquire if the event will be streamed live on the evening! PARISH HISTORIES: A book on the history of all the parishes in the Diocese will be available to purchase shortly. Cappagh are getting 100 copies of this book. This book is a once off publication and will cost €20, normally would retail at €35. To secure a copy of this publication, please leave your name into the sacristy with €20. Please bear in mind that there is only 100 copies for Cappagh. This book would be a lovely Christmas present.

CAKE SALE: There will be a cake sale in Cappagh Community Hall on Saturday evening, December 7, after 6pm mass and Sunday morning, December 8, after 10.30am mass in aid of the millions of homeless Filipino people following the recent typhoon. CONSOLE: Console is holding the annual Christmas ‘Celebration of Light’ service in the Augustinian Church, O’Connell Street, Limerick at 4.00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, to remember loved ones lost to suicide.

DOG NIGHT: The Board of Management and the Parents Association are holding a family night at the dogs. This fundraiser is in aid of St. James School, Cappagh on Friday November 29 at Limerick Greyhound Stadium. First Race at 7.45pm. The cost is €10 per adult, U16s free. Face painting and nail art for younger children. Proceeds from the night are going towards the refurbishment of two school classrooms. Thank you in advance for your support. Look forward to seeing you on the night. Committee members will be selling tickets in the parish over the coming weeks.

CHRISTMAS DINNER: The Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner will take place on Sunday December 15 at 2.30pm. All seniors in the parish are invited to attend. If you know of someone living near you who should be included please leave their name and contact number into the Sacristy. There is always a danger that someone may be overlooked, so please, with your help, we can ensure that this does not happen. As in previous years, we would once again be very grateful for any gifts or tokens that can be distributed on the day. Just mark them male or female. Many Thanks.

LIGHTS: Invites you to the switching on of the Christmas Tree Lights and the arrival of Santa Claus on his magical sleigh on Friday December 6 at 7pm All Welcome – No Charge. Santa Claus will be here to meet boys and girls from Friday 7pm – 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 2pm – 6pm throughout December. SANTA: Well that magical time of year is fast approaching and Santa is getting ready for his annual visit to Cappagh House on Saturday 14 and Sunday December 15. Due to the huge success of our Santa experience over the past few years, we have decided to host the event over two days this year, and our proceeds will be going to St Gabriel’s in Limerick. Santa will need more helpers, some car parking assistants, face painters, sleigh drivers etc. If you are available to help on either the 14th or 15th, and want to get involved in the Santa experience we would love to hear from you. You can either contact Ann Madigan or Steve Carey. It is great fun and you certainly will enjoy it. More information later.

FARM SHOP: The Community Council are holding a market of locally grown organic produce in the Community Hall on Thursday of each week from 11.30am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 4pm. The Community Council wishes to thank those supporting the shop each Thursday. It has a loyal following, but needs more support from the parish at large to be worthwhile. Profits earned will go towards maintenance of the hall. Please support your local Community Hall.

KEEP FIT: Adult keep fit classes are held every Wednesday night in Cappagh Hall from 7-8pm. Cost €6 per class. Aerobic workout, dance, Zumba, Circuits. All welcome. Kids Classes: Run every Wed. after school, Dance, Drama, & singing all in one class. Age 4-13 yrs. For more info: 087–7718988.

SOCIAL CLUB: The Alzheimer Society of Ireland hold a Social Club for people with dementia and their carer, in a supported environment, which takes place each Tuesday morning in the Woodsfield House Hotel, between 11am and 1pm. There is no charge to attend and tea and coffee are provided. Please phone Mary at 061-313456 if you would like to attend, or just call to Woodsfield House Hotel on Tuesdays from 11am.

WATER SCHEME: The committee are asking people living in Cappagh and Callow area and Ballingrane and Rosemount areas to check troughs and outside taps as we have leakage in those areas. Remember once the water goes through the meter you will be charged. If you are not able to repair the leak straight away, let us know and we can switch the supply off until you are ready. There are still a few outstanding payments due. Please bring your invoiced amount to your nearest representative or to Tony Prendiville. All monies will be receipted. Please contact any member of the committee or your nearest representative if you have any query or to submit your payment.
