CHRISTMAS PARTY NIGHT AND DANCE: The Christmas Party night and dance will take place in Halla Tadhg Gaelach on Friday, December 13. The night begins with a four-course meal at 8.30 pm. After a scrumptious meal you can dance the night away to the music of Michael Collins and his band. Michael, Jack Guiney and John O’Gorman will perform on Glór Tíre on TG4 in 2014. It was great to see Michael and Louise Morrissey in Tournafulla last week. The party night is the highlight of the social calendar. You can book your ticket from any member of the Tournafulla Development Association.

DEATH: We offer our sincere sympathy to Mrs. Helen Broderick of Upper Tournafulla on the death of her mother, Mrs. Brede O’Sullivan of Caherlevoy, Mountcollins. Brede was an integral part of a tight, close knit, vibrant community in Upper Caherlevoy. She had a great interest in reading, doing crosswords, music, knitting, the Irish language and current affairs. The home of Brede and her late husband Jack was an open house and it was at their house that many of us saw television for the first time and gathered there to watch programmes like The Fugitive, The Virginian, Tolka Row, Hitchcock and The Riordans. We also sympathise with her sons Jimmy and Davy and with their families. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.

CROSS COUNTRY: The Limerick Senior Cross-Country championships took place in Dromroe last Sunday. It was most appropriate that it took place on the farm of the late Michael O’Sullivan. Mikie himself was a former winner of the men’s senior race. Of course he later went on to win provincial and national titles. The men’s senior race was won by John Downes, with Tracey Roche winning the ladies title. Limerick AC won the men’s club event with West Limerick AC taking the ladies club event.

CAR WINNER: Congratulations to Mrs. Mary Lyons of Ballycommane who won a car recently in the Fighting Blindness draw. Well done Mary and safe driving. We also wish a full and speedy recovery to Mary’s sister Nora O’Connor.

COUNTY MINOR FINAL: Our minor team suffered a heartbreaking defeat at Ballyagran on Saturday last when Seán Óg Hanley’s scored a match-winning goal in the fifth minute of injury time giving them a one point win.

This was an excellent game of hurling in trying conditions. Our players and subs gave of their all but special mention must be given to Stephen Cahill and Conor Moroney. Gary Vaughan, who had to leave the field with a suspected broken collar bone, was a big loss.

This team has given us great enjoyment all year, winning the West, the county semi-final to reach the county final. To all the players, their parents, the management team of Seamus O’Sullivan, Padraig O’Sullivan, Gerard Moroney, Christopher O’Connor, trainer John Collins, physio Bridget Cahill and the backroom team of Michael Harnett, Paddy Delargy, James O’Reilly, Dermot Ryan and Billy Smith we offer our sincere thanks.

Baking stall: Glengurt National School Parents Association will have a baking stall at the Christmas Market on December 1st in the Halla, which starts at 1.30pm. The market is a great annual community event, which is sure to draw big crowds again this year.

It can be home baked or bought, whichever you prefer. Produce can be dropped off to the stall at the Halla from 10am on the day. Anyone wishing to volunteer their time by helping out on the stall at the market would be very welcome too. Contact us at 0868666640.
