Gathering: Former Limerick All Star full back, Pat Hartigan is expected to be among the attendants at the Gathering of the friends of Fr. Browne at Daggers Bar on December 6.

Pat was a regular at the local sports in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Other big names to attend will be Frank O’ Meara, Neil Cusack, Dick Power, Leonard Enright who also played full back for Limerick and was a member of the Redgate Club.

Fr. Browne kept meticulous records and newspaper cuttings and many of these will be on display on the night aswell as photographs and memorabilia.

Former athletes Johnny Prenderville and Pat McDonagh will be among those providing music on the night and people are coming from all over the country and some from abroad for the Gathering of friends. All proceeds will be donated to Milford Hospice.

Meelick GAA: Meelick GAA Club congratulated Oisín and Pat Hickey who were part of the successful Clare U21 hurling team and backroom staff on Saturday last. Clare are All Ireland champions for the second year in a row and preparations now continue for the senior replay. On the home front, Meelick’s Intermediate hurlers found themselves in championship action against Kilanena last Sunday afternoon but were defeated in a game which was in contention until the last few minutes when Kilanena scored a goal to secure them victory.

Meelick played against the wind in the first half and were up two points at the interval but failed to capitalize on wind advantage in the second half.

Meelick were best served by Stephen Hayes, Sean Cooney, Darragh Quinn and Damien Maloney. They play Newmarket in the next round this weekend.

Hedge cutting: Locals were pleased that the hedges were cut from Brennans Cross to Meelick School but have asked that the road from Brennans Cross to the Windy Gap be done as soon as possible as there are many complaints from motorists and cyclists.

Burst Pipe: Councillor Cathal Crowe said that “A burst pipe caused disruption to water services in Meelick over the weekend but following work by Council staff, the matter was rectified and services are now understood to be back to normal.”

Clothes Recycling: Thursday night was the last night to drop off black bags to the club house for the Clothes Recycling Drive. Parteen GAA Club thanked those who took part.

Table Quiz: Parteen GAA Club thanked all of those that supported the table quiz in aid of the Clare hurlers. The night was a huge success with great funds raised for the Clare hurlers.

Parteen St. Nicholas Lotto Draw: Lotto took place on Monday September 9at Larkins Bar for a jackpot of €20,000. The numbers drawn were 3,15, 28 & 29. There was no overall winner.Lucky dip winners were: Fr. Tom Carroll, Parteen; T.A. O’Connor, C/O Catherine O’Connor Athlunkard; Michael Nolan, Lackyle, Ardnacrusha; Nuala O’Connor, Parkroe, Ardnacrusha; Kyle Ryan, Kilmore, Broadford, Co. Clare and Sinead Hanley, Castlebank, Ardnacrusha.

Next weeks draw will take place on Sunday September 15 at Pascals Bar for a jackpot of €20,000.
