THE GATHERING, YEAR OF FAITH : This year is the year of the ‘Gathering’ It is also the year of ‘Faith’ and on Monday 1 July Kilfinane celebrated these two great milestones in the History of the parish at Our Lady’s Well on Spa Road with the celebration of Mass The weather was good as was the crowd that assembled which included many of the First Holy Communion class their familes and friends The Mass commenced with the playing by Thomas Carroll of Amazing Grace on the Pipes. The Choir were also present to add to the occasion The Pastoral Council distributed beautiful Kilfinane bookmarks to mark this special occasion. Water from the Well was and distributed in small bottles to all present. At the conclusion of the Mass Fr. Hanley PP thanked all who had helped in ceremony, Sr. Patricia, the Choir, Readers, Altar Servers and in particular The O’Brien family, on whose land the Holy Well is located. In appreciation of this, there was a number of presentations made to Mrs O’Brien on behalf of the parish.
FEILE na NGAEL 2013 IN KILFINANE : In glorious weather conditions Feile na nGael returned t o Limerick and Blackrord Bord na nOg Club hosted Lisbellaw (Fermanagh) for the weekend who arrived after a long journey at lunch time on Friday.
In the opening game at The Michael Fox Memorial Park, (which was in splendid condition for the Feile) Blackrock played the visitors and it was the visitors who emerged winners by six points 3.07 to 3.01. Both teams travelled to Pairc na nGael Limerick for the Feile Parade to O’ Connell Street. It was back to the playing pitch early on Saturday morning in Kilfinane when Lisbellaw played and defeated while Blackrock played and drew with Wolfe Tones Longford, while in the afternoon, Knockainey overcame Blackrock, Lisbellew defeated Wolfe Tones giving them a place in the Semi Final which as played on Saturday evening with Bruree who their group which comprised of Strandhill (Sligo) James Stephens (Mayo) and St Kierans (Aradgh)
In a great Semi Final witnessed by a fine crowd it was Lisballew who came from behind to win and reach the final in Mungret on Sunday where they lost to Monaghan Harps.The Blackrock panel was : Michael Duggan, Jack McCarthy, Mark Cleary, Brian O’Keeffe, Eoin Fitzgerald, Sean O’Dwyer, Mattie Watson, Enda O’Neill, Gearoid Lawlor, Danny Moloney, Callan Ensor, Killian Lyons, Jimmy Quilty, Colm O’Keeffe, Tyrone Ryan, Jim O’Brien, Declan Murphy and Sean McEniry. The Team Management was : Eamon O’Keeffe, Liam Moloney, Mike Duggan (Fisrst Aid) Eamon Cleary, Mike O’Dwyer and Oliver Ryan. Full Credit to Blackrock Bord na nOg club for a very well organised weekend.

MUNSTER FINAL ON SUNDAY : On this Sunday 14 July, will see two Limerick teams in Munster Final action, when the Minor side meet Waterford and Cork will provide the opposition in the Senior Final at Pairc na nGael Limerick where many a great Munster final have been played over the years

DEFEAT FOR JUNIOR HURLERS IN LEAGUE FINAL: The Junior hurlers played Templeglantine in the County Junior ‘B’ Hurling League Final on Tuesday last week July 2 at Kevin Long Memorial Park Feenagh, where they lost out by the narrowest of margins on a score line of Templeglantine 0-13 Blackrock 1-9.
A very well contested game saw Blackrock aided by the breeze in the opening half and lead at the interval by 1-05 to 0-06.
Templeglantine were the early pacesetters and registered three points ( two from frees) before James O’Doherty opened the Blackrock scoring with a pointed free after eleven minutes of play. Blackrock took the lead with a well taken goal from Anthony Palmer after some fine play from Pa Cleary with a well delivered pass, Eddie Oï¿½Keeffe added a point to increase the lead to two points and Blackrock were unlucky not to add a second gal with a Pa Cleary shot deflected for a 65 which Mike Roche pointed, Templeglantine scored three unanswered points to level the scopres but Blackrock finished the opening half with two points from James O’Doherty and Vincent Herbert to give their side a two lead at the interval. The second half commenced with both sides exchanging points from frees, James O’Doherty being the Blackrock scorer.
Two further points from James Oï¿½Doherty one from a free put Blackrock four points in front but Templeglantine hit back and scored five points, two frees, to go into a one point lead after twenty six minutes of play. Minutes later Mike Roche with a well taken free had the sides level but with four minutes of injury on the clock Templeglantine took the lead with a point from play. Blackrock responded a won a late free which sailed wide of the upright seconds before the referee sounded the full time whistle. Blackrock will be in Championship action on this Saturday evening 13 July when they play Garryspillane in the opening round of the South Championship in Hospital with a 6.30pm throw in.
Minors Take Title: Ballyhoura Gaels captured the South Minor 13 a side Hurling Competition title at Knocklong on Thursday evening last 4 July when they defeated Bruree in the final by 5.12 to 2.06. The winning team was, Adrian O’Sullivan, Sean O’Sullivan, Josh watson, Seamus Ryan, Adrian Cooke, Edd Valatka, Paudie Lawlor, Ben Soundy, Kevin O’Farrell, Shane Lyons, Jo Jo Brazill, Conor O’Dwyer, Donnacha Leahy. Subs used : Sean Lyons, Tom O’Dwyer, Martin Farrell. Meanwhile Sean Og Hanley’s are due to play Cnoc Gaels in the South Minor Hurling Championship on Tuesday next 16 July in Knocklong at 7.30pm.
