We can also mention the outstanding achivements of parish jockey Billy Lee who in recent weeks took the racing world by storm with several outstanding winners in the Irish racing scene couple with some unbelievable success overseas. The parish wishes both Charles and Billy continued success in the competitive world of horse racing.

GAA CLUB:Granagh/Balingarry GAA club are quietly delighted that Limerick senior and minor hurling teams have reached the Munster hurling finals at the Gaelic Grounds this Sunday July 14. Like every parish in Limerick the honour of taking part must be savoured and recognised as a top sporting achivement. It is of course and added bonus that our own Donal O Grady will captain the Limerick side on Sunday.

MAINCHIN SEOIGHE MEMORIAL: The main pupose of the Donncha O Dulaing of RTE fame visit to Knockfierna Hill last Sunday was to unveil a stone memorial in honour of the late Burree historian/author and Limerick Leader columnist, Manchin Seoighe (Mannix Joyce.)
Mainchin will be remembered in many parts of county Limerick for his promote of local history and his vast knowledge was forever in demand. The weekend in his honour at Knockfirena included the highest tributes form Donncha O’Dulaing and Pt O’Donovan, chairman of the Historical Society.
PAT BROSNAN CELEBRATION: Pat Dalton, representing the Irish Red Cross Society organised an Irish music celebration night in recognition of Pat Brosnan’s work in the promotion of traditional entertainment throughout West Limerick with his group Cheoil Luimnigh at St Ita’s Hospital.
Pat Brosnan of Knocknagorna has given decades of loyal service to every parish community including as Limerick Leader correspondent for Athea Parish.
The celebration in his honour was held in St Ita’s nursing home, Newcastle West last Monday evening.
Over 20 entertainers performed in a variety of song, story, music and dance.
