ACM ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Following the recent annual general meeting of the ACM Castleconnell Community Centre, the following committee was elected: John Mac Namara (chairman), Emer Corbett (vice chair & CPL rep), Mary Gleeson (secretary & CPL rep), Breda Casey (assistant secretary), Mary Golden (treasurer), Tom Tyrell (maintenance officer), Nancy Holt (registrar), Catherine O’Doherty (CPL rep), Dilly Edmonds, Bernie Murnane, Angela Dempsey, Phylla Lynch, Gloria Waldman, Irene Cullen, Maura McNamara, Alicia Conway and Lettie Sloane.

Chairman John Mac Namara stated “We are delighted with the composition and skills of the committee. ACM has great plans for the future and we are all really looking forward to serving our community to the greatest extent possible over the next year”.

ACM COMMUNITY CENTRE OPEN NIGHT: “The Castleconnell ACM Community Centre is currently planning its activities for 2013 and beyond, and would like to consult the community and community organisations in relation to same. We are interested in getting your ideas on what services ACM as a Community Centre can and should provide you with, ways we can help other community organisations and any other activities or resources you think we should be providing in the community.

“If you have any suggestions or ideas or would just like to participate, please come along on Wednesday next, May 8, at 8pm to an open brainstorming session at the ACM Community Centre - tea/coffee and lots of chat guaranteed!”

SPECIAL EXAM MASS FOR ALL STUDENTS: “The Parish Pastoral Council are arranging a special Mass/service for all students who will be undergoing exams in the coming months. This special mass/service will take place at 7.30pm, on Saturday, May 11, at St. Joseph’s Church Castleconnell. We welcome all students and their families to attend and participate in this special service. We would be delighted for students or family members to participate in the Mass by getting involved in any of the following - liturgy, prayers of the faithful, music or gifts. SERVICE OF THANKSGIVING: An Ecumenical Service of thanksgiving will be held on this Sunday, at 3.00pm to celebrate 1600 years of continuous Christian worship on the site of All Saint’s Church, Stradbally, Castleconnell.

APPOSTOLIC SOCIETY HOLD ANNUAL DISPLAY AND CAKE SALE: The Castleconnell, Montpelier and Ahane Branch of the Apostolic Society are holding their annual display and cake sale in aid of the Missions, in Castleconnell Parish Hall, on this Sunday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Please come and support this very worthy cause.

AHANE GIRLS FOOTBALL: In sun drenched Ahane last Saturday, Ahane hosted the Limerick Under 8 and 10 Girls Football Fun Blitz. Teams from Ahane, St Ailbes and Mungret took part in the Under 8 blitz and teams from Ahane, Adare, Murroe-Boher, St Ailbes, St Brigid’s and St Pat’s in the Under 10 Blitz. It was our girls first blitz of the season and they displayed an exhibition of skills and teamwork. Well done girls.

Ahane under-14 Girls: Ahane v Knockainey: Ahane 5-5 Knockainey 3-9 — Our under-14 team got back to winning ways last week with a hard fought victory over Knockainey in Ahane, on a scoreline, Ahane 5-5 to Knockainey’s 3-9. Both sides gave it everything and great credit is due to our girls who displayed great skill and teamwork from our goalie to the full forward line, to finish strongly to record a two point win. Team: Katie Molloy, Sinead O’Curry, Orla Twomey, Aoife O’Halloran, Niamh O’Curry, Emma Ridder, Roisin Clothier, Sinead Callinan, Sine Hartigan (0-1), Aisling Herbert (1-0), Aine Reynolds (4-3), Caoilionn Keane (0-1), Catriona O’Halloran, Ailish Reynolds and Ciara Greaney.

Ahane under-16 Girls: Ahane 5-3 to St Pat’s 2-3 — Our Under-16 team recorded back to back victories with a well deserved victory in the league over St Pat’s on a scoreline: Ahane 5-3 to St Pat’s 2-3. Ahane were first out of the blocks with a goal from Kate Herbert. Both teams gave it everything in a very sporting game and Ahane finished stronger to win the game by 3 goals. ICA HOLD THEIR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: The Ahane Castleconnell branch of the ICA held their A.G.M. in Lisnagry N.S., with all members present. Ann Marie Dennison, former national president was present to supervise the event. The committee elected for the coming were: President, Kay Hickey; secretary, Betty Tuohy; vice president, Maureen Kenny; treasurer, Breda Cregan; PRO, Rosaleen Kelly; sport, Kay Green; An Grianan, Mary O’Grady; contests, Phyllis O’Brien; crafts, Agnes Collins; timre, Maureen O’Malley. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 15. New members are very welcome.

FIRST FRIDAY: As this Friday is the First Friday of the month, Holy Communion will be taken to the sick and the housebound.

CHIROPODY SERVICE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS: Chiropody Service for senior citizens will be available on this Friday, in the Health Centre, Castleconnell, at 4.30pm.

DISCO IN CASTLECONNELL FOR LIMERICK YOUTH SERVICE’S 40th: Castleconnell Youth Project will play host to the final Youth Disco of the season on this Friday, in the Parish Hall, Castleconnell, with a special 40th anniversary theme.

The evening will see youth clubs from as far afield as Newcastle West and Killmallock will attend, for what promises to be an evening of funs and games

”Simply can’t wait for it,” said an excited Martin Duhig of Castleconnell Youth Project, who added that there will be a special 40th theme to the event in honour of LYS’s 40th birthday celebrations.
