BALLYHOURA WALKING FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND: The Ballyhoura International Walking Festivak take place this weekend from Friday 3 May to Mon 6 May with over twenty six walks to suit all abilities including ten guided walks. Among the local walks are, The Ballyhoura Marathon Challenge sets out on Saturday morning from Kilfinane at 8.30am with a duration of approx 6 hours plus, covering various through scenic Ballyhoura country before returning to Kilfinane Education Centre. The Half Marathon 5 hours duration, also on Saturday starts in Ballyorgan at 1030am with a bus transfer from Kilfinane a 13 mile walk takes in Glenroe, Darragh Kilflynn returning to Kilfinane via Magner’s Wood. The Sliveraghh Walk leave Kilfinane also on Saturday at 1030am and covers Killeen Wood, onto Slievereagh and return to Kilfinane for Refreshments at The Green Bar. On Saturday there is an Animal Sanctuary Dog Walk which commences at 1pm from The Field of Dreams Sanctuary in Moorestown, refreshments will be served on the completion of the walk at the Sanctuary. On Sunday there are two walks locally, Cush Earthworks Archaeology walk commencing at Ballinvreena Community Centre 2.30pm for a duration of 2.5 hours while at 4pm there is a Kilfinane Town Historical Walk starting from Ballyhoura Centre with refreshments at Green Bar on completion of the walk. On Monday walks from Ardpatrick at 9am and Darragh at 10.30am are the local walks included on the day. Overall a very full and varied programme of walks covering many area’s over the weekend.

FEILE NA nGAEL RETURNS TO LIMERICK : Forty years after the first Feile na nGael was hosted in Limerick, the Feile returns once again this year, the Feile was also hosted in Limerick on a number of occasions since 1973. There was great excitement for the first Feile and Kilfinane Club hosted a team from Killygordan, Co. Donegal and of course there was great hurling excitement throughout Limerick in the summer of 1973 with Limerick having won the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and were on their way to win Limerick’s last All Ireland Senior Hurling title in Croke Park in September. Among the Kilfinane players that played in the 1973 Feile na nGael were, Liam O’Brien, Eugene O’Keeffe, Jimmy O’Connor, Mike Fitzpatrick, Michael O’Shea, John Condon, Billy O’Connor, Kieran O’Connell, Pat McGrath, George Hosford, Jim O’Brien, Danny Ryan, David Quinlan, Jim Hennessy, Pat Quinlan, John Sherwood and Austin Hosford.

HURLERS LOSE IN INTERMEDIATE SEMI FINAL: Blackrock played Castletown Ballyagran in the South Intermediate Championship Semi Final on Saturday evening 27 April last at Paddy Carroll Park Ballyagran, this was a repeat of the 2011 decider which Blackrock were victorious and they were hoping to reach the final for a third year in a row, losing out to Glenroe last year after a replay, but it was the Castletown Ballyagran side that proved best to win by 0.17 to 0.14 and reach their second decider in three years. Blackrock will return to Ballyagran on Saturday 11 May where they will play Knockaderry in the opening round of the County Intermediate Championship

KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : Club runners hit top form in Kilmallock 5 Mile Club members were out in good numbers over the weekend with times continuing to fall for all runners Kilmallock 5 Mile Friday 26 April. The club had a great turnout and fantastic set of results in the Kilmallock 5 mile with Gary Egan leading the team home with a fantastic Seventh place finish, followed closely by the ever improving Donnacha Enright. The times posted by all were very impressive and consistent training is definitely paying dividends for the blue and green. Great also to see Patricia Wade picking up a first place in her category. All of the following runners joined the club in the last 6 months or so and the level of commitment shown by all has certainly put the club in a good place for the coming year. Well done all! Signs are good for the Kilfinane Ac 5 Mile on Friday 21 June.

Knockane Friends of Limerick ‘73 5K Saturday 27 April : Breda Bridges followed up her great performance in the Kilmallock 5 with another PB run in the Knockane 5K, and was Fifth lady home in an excellent time of 22:37. IMRA Munster League Sunday 28th April : Sean Manning was Ninth in the Mt. Hillary IMRA Munster League mountain race and continues to see a big improvement on 2012 results. Monster Mac Adventure Series Saturday 27 April : Well done to Lucy Curtayne, Edel Hennessey and Michelle Campbell who completed the Big Mac Adventure race over a 33k course in Millstreet. The event included running, cycling and kayaking. More to follow on their performances over the rest of the series.

GREAT LIMERICK RUN this weekend : Best of luck to all Kilfinane AC runners who have been training hard in recent months and indeed to all taking part in what is sure to be a great event on Sunday 5 May. On this Sunday 5 May (9am)...Great Limerick Run Marathon (9am)...Great Limerick Run Marathon Relay (11:45am)...Great Limerick Run Half-Marathon Sun 5th (1:30pm)...Great Limerick Run 6 mile fun run. On Saturday 4 May as part of the Ballyhoura Walking festival Kilfinane is hosting a marathon with a difference. The Ballyhoura Marathon starts from Kilfinane at 8.30am with a Challenging marked 26.2 mile route traversing forest track, open mountain and riverbanks through the scenic Ballyhoura landscape. Return to Kilfinane Education Centre for showers & dinner. Brand new route this year. Alternatively there is the half marathon route which begins at 10.30am. Visitwww. for details. The Kilfinane AC 5 Mile takes place this year on Friday 21 June at 7.30pm. On line entry is now available on Run Ireland.

TRAINING: Numbers at training continue to hold firm under coach Mike McCauliffe. Training continues each Saturday in Dromin at 9.30 am. Weds evening interval training in Dromin is at 6.30pm.
