Thanks to Pat Cronin and Nyle Wolfe our sound engineers, Pat Quinn and Patrick O’Dwyer for providing Car Parks, James Sexton for time-keeping, Thomas O’Connor our chief Marshal and Sean Foley who led out our walkers, Doon Community Council , Andrew Moloney and Sean O’Malley from Limerick county council and Sean Dawson Marquee hire. Our special guests Borrisoleigh/Doon Harriers for taking part in the walk with their hounds and last but not least thanks to the many Runners and walkers who participated in our event.
There was a great turnout from the parish with a very large contingent also from Moreabbey Milers A.C. who filled three of the first places in Mike Curley Cunningham, Thomas Blackburn and Stuart Moloney. Michael Carmody of Limerick A.C. set the winning time in 15.44. Declan O’ Connor came in 8th in 17.24. A great run from Seamus Hayes (18.03) saw him finish in 10th just ahead of Denis O’ Connor in 18.08. Denis Lawton (18.23) was impressive in 13th but pick of the top fifteen from a parish view pint was Dermot Murnane who came in 14th in 18.46. We don’t see enough of Dermot on the circuit and this result should spur him on for further involvement. 19th was Will O’ Dwyer (19.38), Evan McMahon (20.21) in 24th which again was a great run for a first timer followed home by our own legend, Ned Gammell in the same time. Pat Sheehan (20.54) was 28th and next was a surprise package in the name of Ciaran Ryan M. The early morning training session done by Ciaran of late (21.13) brought him home in 21.13 for 31st place, and the performance of the bottom half of the table goes to John Barry in 33th. John did a tortoise run the week prior in The Jacinta Moloney 10K in U.L. but he powered past James McMahon (21.21) in 34th, Dessie O Connor (21.26) in 35th, Liam McMahon (21.28) in 36th, Martin Franklin (21.34) in 38th and Oliver Ryan (21.54) in 42nd. Alan Hanley of Knockane a first year student in Hospital did great in 54th (22.32) ahead of P.J. Quirke (22.58) in 59th and Lary O’ Grady (23.12) in 61st. Denis O’ Sulivan (25.34) in 65 was one ahead of the first lady in the parish Ann Hayes of Cloughadereen who finished 66th in (23.54). Gary Fraher in 68th came home in 24.08 with eight year old Josh McMahon of Coologue the youngest competitor who finished 73th, in 24.42 in 78th position in 25.10 was Kyron O’ Donnell..Marita Barrett (25.30) was 80th just ahead of Richard Hayes (25.54) and Gillian Hickey 89th in (27.04). Nine year old Josh O’ Connor came in 100th in a time of 29.04 with Linda O’ Connor (29.40) and Abigail O’ Connell back in 101st and 102nd respectively.
The highlight of the run was the number of parish participants and the whole ambience of the evening was a throwback to the past. The work and commitment of the committee was evident from early morning in setting up a Marquee and with the Munster game live the late arrivals were car parked in a quick and efficient manner. The Idler Snug became the computer H.Q. and Canteen and there was a great spread of cakes, buns and refreshments after the event. The run went past the school house, down to Templebraden Church past Dick O’ Brien’s and back into Kilcornan finishing at The Idler Bar.
High Noon on Sunday saw a few foot soldiers rally to the call of John O’ Dea of Kilteely. Many were called but only a few followed. John is a candidate for the Mayoral Electon in Kilteely and he had a 4.65 mile challenging run via Carrakittle, Scart and up and up Davy Quirke’s hill to Kilteely.
The winner of a sizable cup was Declan O’ Connor followed home by John Shanahan of Doon, Will O’ Dwyer, John O’ Dea and P.J. Quirke were next with Josh O Connor getting great use of his new trainers combining the walk and run.
Next Sunday sees a number of parish participants take to the Streets of Limerick in The Great Limerick 6 Mile, Half Marathon and Marathon. Please LIKE the Pallasgreen Templebraden Facebook Page if you are participating and we will give all our competitors a mention.
