COMMUNITY GAMES: Athletics; Kilcornan Community Games will hold their annual sports evening on this Thursday May 2. Registration will begin at 6 pm. Registered members free. Non registered members €5 per child or €10 per family.

Races will begin at 6.30pm The qualifiers from these races will represent Kilcornan in Mungret at the end of June.

Swimming; Congratulations to Padraic Murphy who won a bronze medal in u8 freeystyle in Askeaton recently.

SALESIAN COLLEGE: The Sign4Life Team will be facing the Dragons on Junior Dragons Den next Sunday, May 5 at 9.30pm on RTE1. We wish them the best of luck with their sign language app and their pitch for funding with the Dragons. Their app is a resource to teach people sign language so that the general public can communicate with the deaf community. The team include Fiona Mangan, Coleen Mullane, Chris O’Brien, Caoimhe O’Neill and Ciara Reidy. Their app is currently on the android market and they hope to expand to the iphone market with additional funding.

The annual fashion show ‘Passion for Fashion’ took place on Wednesday last, 24th April in the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel. It was a great success and we would to thank all of our advertisers, parents and friends who supported the event.

Our annual Golf Classic will take place Friday, May 10 in Charleville Golf Club. The cost is €200 per team of 4. This includes tea, coffee and scones on arrival, green fees and dinner on completion of the golf. Fabulous prizes to be won including Four Ball on Links Courses with accommodation in various venues around the country. Salesian Secondary College will hold a colours day on Friday, 10th May in aid of the Donal Walsh appeal to ‘Fix Crumlin’. Many secondary schools in Limerick are taking part and all the proceeds from the colours day event will go to the Cancer Unit at Our Ladys Childrens Hospital Crumlin. We organised a ‘Great Irish Bake’ cake sale in our school on Thursday, 25th April, it was a great success with €510 raised for Temple Street Childrens Hospital.

Bag A Bargain – A number of teachers from our school are participating in a Camino in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. They are organising a fundraising event, please donate any unwanted handbags, scarves, hats, sunglasses and accessories to the school office for a Handbag and Accessory sale, date to be confirmed.

PARENTS COUNCIL: We will be having our Fund Raiser Walk on Sunday May 19. Registration at €10, will be at 10 am in the Community Centre car park, and will include entry to a draw for spot prizes.

The draw will be held in the Coach Inn after the walk where tea / coffee, scones etc. will be served and people can relax and have a chat. Bring your friends. If you wish to register for the walk only

the fee will be €5. This year the proceeds of the walk will be used in improving the toilet facilities, by installing electric hand dryers and various dispensers. Your usual generous support will be appreciated.

This year we will have First Holy Communion on May 10 and Confirmation on May 29. As part of the celebration of these occasions it is traditional that both the Parents Council and Pastoral

Councils provide light refreshments in the Community Centre for the children and their families. We are looking for volunteers for both days to help with the catering. If you are available please

VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS SOUGHT FOR THE GATHERING: As part of The Gathering 2013, Volunteer Ireland is looking for Volunteer Ambassadors for Limerick to provide a warm Irish welcome to visitors during this year’s busy tourist season. This is a fun and exciting opportunity to greet visitors from across the globe and show them why Limerick is one of the best places in the world to visit! Volunteer Ireland is looking for friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable volunteers who aren’t afraid to actively approach visitors and provide information about upcoming Gathering events in the local area. Volunteers must be over 18, have fluent English and should be available to volunteer for one two-hour shift per week (Wednesday to Saturday) between May 24th and August 3rd. MARIE KEATING MOBILE UNIT: The Marie Keating Foundation mobile information unit will be in Newcastle West (Market Yard) from 10.30am-12.30pm and in Rathkeale (main square) from 1.30pm- 3.30pm this Thursday May 2nd. This free service is open to all and will be delivered by a qualified nurse in the unit. She will be able to answer any questions people may have. There will also be information on all the main types of cancer as well equipment which shows the effects of smoking on lungs. This is being organised in partnership with the West Limerick Primary Health Care Project, West Limerick Resources with support from Rathkeale Community Council CE Scheme, West Limerick TUS programme and Limerick County Council.

OLD FURNITURE WANTED: Old & old fashioned furniture (excluding sofas & mattresses), old/ broken tiles and plates are wanted for a new Newcastle West based furniture up-cycling training course for people who are unemployed. This new training course will restyle old but solid furniture so that it can be re-used & sold on, with money reinvested into the training project for materials. WEST LIMERICK CONNECTS: West Limerick Connects is a free phone call service operating out of three Day Care Centres in West Limerick (Abbeyfeale, Glin and Newcastle West). Through this project, phone calls are made to older people who may be living alone, at a fixed time every week to check on their well being and inform them of local events and services. If you or anyone you know, would like to receive a weekly phone call, please contact Irene on 069 66298.

RURAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE: The Rural Employment Service (R.E.S) works with individuals who are long term unemployed and who want to make a positive change in their lives and who see employment as a central part in that change. This service is free and confidential. The service also provides information on training and education opportunities and support in creating a career plan.
