FAMILY QUIZ - ST. NESSAN’S SCHOOL: This Sunday, 24 February, the Parents Council at St. Nessan’s Primary School, Mungret has organised a “Family Quiz”. The Quiz will commence at 5pm (sharp!) and conclude at 7pm and is being held in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse. Everyone is welcome to come along. The cost of participation is €10 per table, and each table must have at least one adult participating. Children who are attending 1st or higher classes in school can partake. Parishioners are encouraged to support the ongoing work of the Parents Council at the School, and at the same time to enjoy a very pleasant evening.

BLOOD DONATION CLINIC: The next Blood Donation clinic in this locality will be held on Monday evening next, 25 January, from 5pm to 8pm, at the South Court Hotel, Raheen. Regular donors are requested to please note this date and time, and to continue to support this vital service to others. New donors are always especially welcome. MASSES FOR LENT: Together with the usual weekday Masses in the Parish, an additional Mass being celebrated in Raheen Church on Friday evenings at 7.30pm during Lent.

LENTEN TALKS AND REFLECTIONS: The series of four Talks and Reflections being held at the Millennium Centre in Raheen during Lent, commenced on Wednesday evening this week, and will continue for the next three Wednesday evenings - 27 February, 6 March and 13 March. The Talks commence at 8pm on each of the evenings concerned and conclude at 9.30pm. These Talks, which have as their theme “A Lenten Journey Through The Creed To Mark The Year Of Faith”, are being deliverd by Fr. Frank O’Connor, who will also lead Reflections on The Creed and what Catholics believe, based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Admission is free, and all are most welcome to come along; it will be helpful if those attending can bring along a copy of the Catechism.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Each Friday morning during Lent, at 9.45am (prior to the 10am daily Mass), Stations of The Cross are taking place at St. Nessan’s Church in Raheen.

MUNGRET REGIONAL SOCCER CLUB: Mungret Regional Soccer Club would welcome new members into its girls’ under 12 and under 14 teams; anyone interested is welcome to come to the Club grounds any Wednesday evening at 5pm.

TROCAIRE - LENTEN APPEAL: Trocaire Boxes, for this year’s Lenten appeal, are available in the three Churches of the Parish (Mungret, Crecora and Raheen) as well as being available through the Schools. This month, February, marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of Trocaire, and the organisation wishes to extend its gratitude to everybody for four decades of steadfast support in aid of the world’s poorest people. Trocaire, together with its supporters, is proud to continue to work on behalf of those in greatest need in the world. The 2013 Lenten campaign has as it’s theme “You Can Help Communities Work Their Way Out Of Poverty”. The Trocaire organisation is happy to continue “working for a just world”. Parishioners are encouraged to take a box home and to remember the people of the Third World in their daily struggles to make a living, during Lent. MUNGRET/ST. PAUL’S GAA CLUB: An Open Information meeting, for Club members, was held on Monday this week in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse; according to the Club’s website, the Club intends to hold similar such meetings on a monthly basis “going forward”.

BEREAVEMENT INFORMATION EVENING: On Tuesday evening next, 26 February, a Bereavement Information Evening will take place at Milford Care Centre from 7pm to 8.30pm. This event is designed to provide general information relating to grief and bereavement to those who are bereaved, to their families and friends. Bereavement counsellors will be present to deal with any specific questions which may arise. The Bereavement Information Evening is being held in seminar rooms 1&2 on the first floor of the new Day Care building at Milford Care Centre.

LECTURES - CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY: The next Lecture in the series of Public Lectures, to celebrate the Year of Faith, at Mary Immaculate College, South Circular Road, will be delivered on Tuesday next, 26 February, at 5pm when Dr. Colman O’Clabaigh, OSB will address the topic “The Cloister of The Soul - Architecture and Spirituality in Late Mediaeval Ireland “; subsequent Lectures will be delivered on successive Tuesday evenings at the same commencement times, all dealing with a Christian Spirituality - related topic. The Lectures will take place in Room 202 at Mary Immaculate College; admission to the Lectures is free, and everyone is welcome to come along.

UNWANTED SPECTACLES (GLASSES): An opportunity to dispose of no longer required spectacles is presently available at the County Library in Dooradoyle, by way of a collection box arranged there by the International Lions Club. By bringing along unwanted spectacles to this location, you will be helping poor people in underdeveloped Countries who require spectacles but cannot afford them. The International Lions Club, who are to be highly commended for this initiative, will ensure that the donated spectacles (and hopefully there will be many, by way of response to this appeal) will be made available to those people in need.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION: Advance notice of this year’s Confirmation date for the pupils of 6th Class at St. Nessan’s Primary School, Mungret - Thursday, 18 April.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: Similar advance notice of this year’s First Holy Communion dates for the relevant Classes at St. Nessan’s Primary School - Saturday, 20 April and Saturday, 27 April.

DIOCESAN YOUTH MINISTRY - TAIZE: A reminder to those young people residing in the Parish will are interested in participating in this year’s Diocesan Youth Ministry Pilgrimage to Taize in France - the Pilgrimage is taking place from Thursday, 4 July to Tuesday, 9 July. The Pilgrimage is open to young people aged eighteen years and over; the cost this year is €595. Those interested should contact the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Denmark Street, Limerick, tel. 061-400133, as soon as possible.

ST. JOHN BOSCO RELIC - VISIT TO LIMERICK: The Relic of St. John Bosco, Founder of the Salesian Order, is being brought to a number of locations in Ireland, with a commencing Ceremony taking place in Dublion today, Saturday, 23 February. A number of locations in Limerick have been selected as part of the Relic’s tour - they are as follows: the Salesian College in nearby Pallaskenry (which is attended by many students who reside in this Parish) on Friday next, 1 March; Holy Family Church, Southill on Thurday next, 28 February; Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Milford on Wednesday next, 27 February and Our Lady of The Rosary Church, Ennis Road on Thursday week, 7 March. The relevant Ceremonies to be held at the three locations will consist of a Welcome Liturgy, Mass and Veneration of The Relic. Those interested in finding out more information regarding the times of Cderemonies in the different locations, and any other information regarding the Visits, should contact the College/Parish authorities concerned.

FIRST FRIDAY: Friday next week, 1 March, is the First Friday of the month; daily Mass in the Parish Churches will be at the usual times, with a 7.30pm Evening Mass in Raheen Church also. Holy Communion will, as usual, be brought to the sick and housebound by the Priests of the Parish.

PIONEER ASSOCIATION: The monthly meeting of the local Pioneer Centre takes place next Friday evening, 1 March, in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone who wishes to become a Pioneer, or who is already a Pioneer and wishes to become a member of the Raheen Centre, or who wishes to obtain information regarding the services provided by the Centre, is welcome to come along to the monthly meeting.

LIMERICK CHORAL FESTIVAL: No doubt certain local residents will be interested to know that the choral group “Anuna” are appearing in Concert at St. Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Street, Limerick on Friday evening next, 1 March, at 8pm. The Concert is being presented by Limerick Choral Festival Society, in association with RTE Lyric FM; tickets, which cost €15, are available from Euro Empire in O’Connell Street or St. Joseph’s Church. REGISTER OF ELECTORS: A recent Public Notice from Limerick County Council refers to the Register of Electors for 2013/2014. The Register relates to “the new Dail Constituencies of Kerry North - West Limerick, Limerick and part of Limerick City ”. The Notice advises members of the public that the Register of Electors for the County of Limerick for Dail, European Assembly, Local Government, Presidential Elections and Referenda has been published and may be inspected at the following locations: Post Offices, Garda Stations, Health Centres, Libraries, Courthouses and Limerick County Council Office locations including County Hall, Dooradoyle. In addition, any resident can check if their name is included on the Register by accessing the County Council’s website at www.lcc.ie
