IRISH MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE ASSOC 5K WALK: All is in readiness for the 5k walk this Saturday February 23rd in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. We hope the weather will play its part and for everyone to enjoy a day out for a cause that has captured the hearts of the community and beyond.

We hope the weather will play its part and for everyone to enjoy a day out for a cause that has captured the hearts of the community and beyond.

The Community of Pallasgreen incorporation with the Pallasgreen-Templebraden Dev Assoc have come together to organise this fundraiser for the I.M.N.D.A.

As you may be aware a member of the community is at present battling this incurable disease.

This walk is hoping to raise much needed funds for the research and wonderful care carried out by the I.M.N.D.A.

The walk commences at 2pm from the Pallasgreen Community Centre. The route will take you to one of the most scenic and spectacular areas of County Limerick with rolling hillsides and views of natural beauty finishing back at the centre where refreshments will be served. A host of celebrities are anticipated to attend to offer their support.

We invite everyone to come along and support this very worthy cause. Please note that children taking part in the walk must be accompanied by an adult. The route will be marshalled and bicycle stewards and motor bike marshalls will also travel along the route

BARNA N.S. TABLE QUIZ: Barna National School will hold a Table Quiz in the Idler Bar Knockane on this Friday Night February 22nd at 9pm. All are welcome

PALLASGREEN/TEMPLEBRADEN CHURCH RENOVATION DRAW: This begins the First Friday in May and will run for 5 months. Once the draw cards are printed we will call a meeting for all who help distribute them. We again ask each household , through family working away, friends or colleagues at work to fill at least one card. Tickets are €10 each per month, €50 for the 5 months and prize money again is €21,000. We ask other organisations to give us a free run until the draw is up and running in May as this will be the only fundraiser for the year. Some of the profit from the draw will be used to carry out a full investigation of the work to be done in Templebraden Church

SENIOR SCOR: Pallasgreen GAA are seeking members (17 years +) to compete in Senior Scór 2013.This competition is open to novelty acts, singers, ballad groups, recitation, musicians and dancers. Also there is a scholarship to a Munster based Gaeltacht College summer course available to club members in secondary school. CASHEL & EMLY LOURDES FUNDRAISING DRAW: With great prizes to be won in this draw and for a wonderful cause, tickets only cost €20 and the draw will take place on the 9th of March 2013 in Thurles. 1st prize €1000. 2nd €800, 3rd €500, 4th €300, 5th €200, 6th €100 and 30 prizes of €50 each plus two draws for two to Lourdes.Tickets can be obtained from any member of the Lourdes Helpers or Mike O’Donoghue 087-6275559.

PALLASGREEN/TEMPLEBRADEN COMMUNITY ALERT: Pallasgreen/Templebraden Community Alert has now installed forty personal Alarm Systems for those who are eligible in our community. We have another forty homes which have applied and we hope to have completed all these installations by Easter at the latest. We are proceeding road by road to ensure that we miss out nobody. Thank you for your patience and for the warm welcome we have received everywhere. The installations are generally done on Saturdays and we will try to contract you in advance. The cost to the householder is €66 annually which may be paid on the day or by post afterwards. All people in our community should keep a special eye on neighbours who are older or living alone

JUVENILE CLUB AGM: The AGM of the Pallasgreen GAA Juvenile club took place recently in the meeting room GAA field before a big attendance. The night saw all three officers at the helm stepping down and new faces to steer the fortunes of the Juvenile Club taking the role. Outgoing chairman Philip Cosgrave opened the meeting and welcomed everybody. Secretary Timmy Murphy gave a comprehensive report on the years activities. A little bit of history was made when Treasurer Justin Phelan delivered his report on power point. A detailed report showed the club in a good financial position going forward. Philip Cosgrave in his address said that the club is in a good place now and a bright future ahead. Under his leadership saw the club playing in Croke Park, Weekly Bingo set up for future development, Numerous county titles captured etc. He thanked his fellow officers for their corporation down through the years and its now time for new leaders to take the club forward another step. He wished the new incoming officers every success for the year ahead.

The following officers were elected; Chairman Jimmy Hourigan, Secretary Marianne Franklin, Treasurer Breda McGuinness. Asst Secretary & Child Protection Officer Timmy Murphy, Vice Chairman Frank Roche. Feile Officer Frank Roche All team managers and mentors will be in place before next meeting.

MEDAL PRESENTATION: The Juvenile club presentation of medals took place last Sunday evening in the Community Centre. Medals were presented by Limerick Senior Footballer and Captain of Pallasgreen Co Intermediate football champions 2012 Lorcan O’Dwyer. The main winners of 2012 were the U13 Footballers who captured county honours and these were; Alan Hanley, Kieran O’Donnell, John O’Donnell, John Hickey, Collum Cosgrave, Michael Franklin, Pat Rodahan, Colm McMahon, Adam Lynn, Donnocha Looby, Sean Savage, Josh Davern, Conor Linnane, Alex Ryan, Michael O’Connell, Kyle O’Connell, Cian Lonergan, Aaron Greene, Aidan McNamara. Medals were also presented to the U- 6’s, U-8’s, and U-10’s.

The Player of the year awards went to the following; Christy McMahon U12 Player Collum Cosgrave. Michael O’Donoghue U14 Player; Liam Keogh. Maurice O’Brien Memorial U16 player; Brian Fanning. Female player Aine Looby and the Jimmy Fanning Most Dedicated Player; Mark Fitzgerald.

Training; It has been decided that training for Under 6,8 and 10 will take place every Wednesday night from 6.30pm to 7-30pm for hurling and on Sunday Morning at 11am to 12pm for Football. Under 12 and 14 will train on Sunday mornings at 11am.

FRIENDS OF LIMERICK ‘73: Friends of Limerick are a recently formed committee with the aim of raising funds for Charity. The Charities we have chosen are Milford Care Center, MS Limerick and Lisnagry Association Limerick with all monies raised divided equally between the three Charities. With this idea in mind and this year 2013 being the 40th anniversary of Limerick last All Ireland Senior hurling title win, it is hoped with co--operation of the Players of that famous panel to get replica Limerick jerseys and hurleys autographed. The jerseys and hurleys will be auctioned and raffled. Friends of Limerick’73 will be launched in Moore’s Bar Doon on this Saturday 23rd February 2013 at 8.30pm followed by table quiz at 9.30pm all are welcome.

GAA NEWS: Pallasgreen GAA Club Victory and 125 Celebration Dance.On Friday 8th March, Pallasgreen GAA club will be hosting a dinner dance in the Woodlands Hotel in Adare. After dinner music and entertainment will be provided by Froggie and Michelle. Tickets for the event will cost €30 and are available from David McGuinness on 087 2677674. Early purchasers will be entered into a draw for B&B in the Woodlands Hotel on the night of the dance. There are also a limited number of rooms available in the hotel for €29.50 per person.
