THE GATHERING: The Bruff Gathering will take place from 1st to 7th July 2013. Full details of the itinery have yet to be worked out but it will coincide with the Summer Festival and include the Bruff Rose Contest, Heritage Projects, Guided Walks, a genealogy workshop etc. We have invited over 1000 people with ancestral connections to visit Bruff for the occasion. You may know other people abroad who have not been included and who would appreciate an invitation. Please feel free to contact them yourselves or alternatively provide the Community Office 061 389841 with their details preferably with an email address and an invite will be sent. Preparations for The Gathering will require a concerted effort from a lot of people and volunteers are asked to contact the Community Office to offer their assistance.

BRUFF HERITAGE GROUP – THE GATHERING: As part of “The Gathering” Celebrations in Bruff (July 1st- 7th) an exhibition of correspondence over the years will take place. Bruff Heritage Group are trawling all avenues in search of letters, postcards ,Christmas cards telegrams etc. which would have been exchanged between the people of Bruff (and South Limerick generally) and other places near and far. Have you a letter or postcard which was sent or received, giving the news from home or away, be it large or trivial (we are particularly interested in trivia!), down the years?
We would love to hear from you and be assured that all items will be treated with the utmost care and respect. LIMERICK WEST GIY: With the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food, will hold its February meeting on Thursday 21st February @ 7.00pm sharp in D&M Garden Centre, Croagh with new growers and old hands all welcome. This month’s talk will be given by Rachael O’Grady who will speak about fruit trees. With the new growing season starting to get into gear this talk will be excellent for both the new grower and the experienced old hands. There will also be a small piece about potatoes with the emphasis be on taste, disease resistance etc. GIY’s vision is for a healthier, more connected and more sustainable world where people grow their own food. CHRISM MASS: His Excellency, Archbishop Charles Brown, Papal Nuncio, will celebrate Chrism Mass in the Diocese on Wednesday, 27th March at 7.30pm in St. John’s Cathedral. Please follow the usual procedure regarding the allocation of Holy Oils for your Parish.
ORDINATION OF BISHOP-ELECT BRENDAN LEAHY: On Sunday, 14th April, 2013 at 3.00pm, Rev. Brendan Leahy will be ordained Bishop of Limerick in St. John’s Cathedral. Further details in relation to the ordination, seating allocation, liturgy, etc., will be finalised in the next few weeks and will be forwarded to you well in advance of the occasion.
GRANGE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Grange Residents Association would like to thank all the volunteers who help with the tidy up last Saturday. All support is greatly appreciated as were the lovely refreshements provided by Doroles and the ladies at lunch time. Well done also to Robert, one of the younger members of the community for the great help and commitment. We will have the parish of Grange looking splendid for the summer with all the work being done.
BRUFF GAA MEMBERSHIP: This time of year sees renewal of club membership. Membership of the club remains the same as last year at €30 with student and OAPs at €10. New members are always very welcome to join the club. Closing date is March 31st. Thank you for your support.
THE WITNESS/ A MUSICAL: The Witness: A musical by Carol & Jimmy Owens. The Witness is the story of Jesus, told and sung by Peter and the other men and women who knew the Master best. Featuring a great cast and coordinated by Fr. Terry Loughran. “The Witness” a musical, will be presented by the Diocese of Limerick, in the Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th March at 8pm. This production which is being staged just before Easter is an ideal opportunity for parishes, youth groups, as well as individuals to participate in a meaningful and relevant way in the Year of Faith and to enter into the spirit of the season of preparation for the events of Holy Week. IRISH MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE ASSOC 5K WALK: The Community of Pallasgreen have come together to fundraise for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association with a 5km Walk on Saturday 23rd of February. As you may be aware a member of the community is at present battling this incurable disease. This walk is hoping to raise much needed funds for the research and wonderful care carried out by the I.M.N.D.A. The walk commences at 2pm from the Pallasgreen Community Centre. The route will take you to one of the most scenic and spectacular areas of County Limerick with rolling hillsides and views of natural beauty finishing back at the centre where refreshments will be served. We invite everyone to come along and support this very worthy cause. All are welcome. On the day the I.M.N.D.A. will have a stand set up at the Community Centre in order to provide information about the organisation and the services proved including:
· home visiting by an M.N.D. dedicated nurse,
· financial assistance towards home care help
· provision of specialist medical equipment and appliances on loan free gratis to clients.
· support of research into the causes and treatment of the disease
FRIENDS OF LIMERICK ‘73: Friends of Limerick are a recently formed committee with the aim of raising funds for Charity. The Charities we have chosen are Milford Care Center, MS Limerick and Lisnagry Association Limerick with all monies raised divided equally between the three Charities. With this idea in mind and this year 2013 being the 40th anniversary of Limerick last All Ireland Senior hurling title win, it is hoped with co-operation of the Players of that famous panel to get replica Limerick jerseys and hurleys autographed. The jerseys and hurleys will be auctioned and raffled. Friends of Limerick’73 will be launched in Moore’s Bar Doon on Saturday 23rd February 2013 at 8.30pm followed by table quiz at 9.30pm all are welcome. We will be holding a number of other fundraisers over the coming months and would appreciate any sponsorship/spot prizes you could provide. More details will follow over the coming weeks
JOEY HANNAN MEMORIAL RUN/ FUN WALK: Joey Hannan Memorial Run / Fun Walk: St. Patrick’s Day 17th March 2013, Croom Co. Limerick. It is that time of year again and we the committee have being working behind the scenes organising a great day’s events in memory of Joey. The Walk will start at 1:15 pm while the runners get off at 2 pm. After the walk/race prize giving will take place between 3:30 and 4 pm. Teas and sandwiches will be provided for all. On St. Patrick’s night there will be an ‘Irish Night’ also in Colaiste Chiarain Croom and all are welcome to attend where we will have traditional entertainment, €5 admission.
DEISE COMMUNITY CLUB: Deise Community Club party will be held at the Band Room Bruff on Tuesday 26th February 2013 at 7.30 p.m, hosted by the Social Services. All are welcome.
SUMMER ENGLISH SCHOOL 2013: Some Spanish and Italian teenagers will be coming to this area from late June to mid July to learn English.
