Recent death: Meelick is in deep shock at the untimely death of Eoin Bateman at the tender age of 41. Eoin took ill at home last Sunday week and died at the Regional Hospital on Sunday evening.

Recent death: Meelick is in deep shock at the untimely death of Eoin Bateman at the tender age of 41. Eoin took ill at home last Sunday week and died at the Regional Hospital on Sunday evening.

Eoin was extremely popular in the local community, entirely devoted to his wife Diane, son Jack, father Johnjoe and his parents in law, Jack and Eileen Sheehan.

He was involved in all aspects of community life in the parish and in recent years, he travelled the country motorcycle scrambling.

His untimely death has come as a great shock to his family and friends in a community where he had no enemies. His work colleagues at Chieftain Construction are in deep shock at his sudden death.

Eoin was predeceased by his brother Darragh and his mother Nell.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Diane, son Jack and the Bateman and Sheehan families on their great loss.

Meelick GAA: The draw for the U21 hurling championship was held last Friday. Meelick will participate in the C Competition and find themselves drawn against Ballyea B in the preliminary round. Should Meelick be successful in the first round, they will then face Kilkee in the quarter final.

Parteen GAA: All members of Parteen GAA Club aged between 12-16 and their parents are invited to attend an ASAP Programme meeting in Parteen National School on Wednesday 6th March at 7.30pm.

Parteen GAA Club said, “ The Alcohol & Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Programme is a joint venture by the GAA and the Health Service Executive that aims to reduce the harm being caused by alcohol and other drugs.”

The program will start with a talk from the Garda drugs unit for 12-16 year olds in the club and their parents.

The winner of the 100 euro Dunnes voucher for registering on registration week is Mrs. Long, Lackyle, Ardnacrusha. Well done.

Parteen Lotto draw took place at Browne’s on Sunday 17th Feb. There was no winner. The numbers drawn were: 3. 8, 18 & 30. Lucky dip winners €30 each: Dave Caroll, Shannon Banks; Teresa Kelly, Ballycar, Ardnacrusha; Pat Cross, Greenpark, Parteen; Anna McKenna, C\O Noelle Howard; Paraic Conlon, Castlebannk, Ardnacrusha and Larry O’Doherty Drom & Inch Tipperary.

Next Sunday (24th) night’s draw will take place at Larkins for a jackpot of €20,000.

Enrolment at Meelick National School: Applications for Enrolments are now being accepted for Junior Infants at Meelick NS. for the academic year 2013/2014

Successful fundraiser: The recent fun run/walk in aid of Parteen NS building fund proved to be an outstanding success. School principal Mr. Philip Lavin thanked everybody who took part in any way, “It was a community effort with individuals, clubs and organisations playing a huge part and I am very grateful as school principal to everybody for their great efforts on behalf of the school.”
