A Story and Song: Tom McCarthy and Murt Downes were the popular special guests of Pat O’Donovan on West Limerick 102fm. A great selection of their music was enjoyed by hundreds of West Limerick listeners.

JT McNamara benefit race: A Point-to-Point meeting on Sunday, October 27, organised by Limerick Harriers Hunt Club to raise funds to help the recovery of JT McNamara, will take place at Lemonfield, Crecora. First race starts at 12 noon.

GAA: Our U14 hurlers reaching the County Division 3 final against St Patrick’s was the highlight of the weekend. The local side only beaten a few points in the final minutes were highly praised by the club and supporters. The Granagh/Ballingarry GAA club annual general meeting is fixed for Friday, December 6.

Soccer: Granagh United FC U10 teams are currently holding the top places in the Limerick Desmond Schoolboy/Girls league after four games played. The U12, U14 and U16 will be busy in the next few weeks getting their points on the league table to match the U10 positions. The Junior Division 2 unfortunately slipped a little from the top by giving a walkover to Newcastle West last week. The parish club lottery jackpot, which is €15,350, is the attractive prize this week as no match emerged last week. Lucky dip winners included Catriona Scanlon, Ashling Heffernan, Kay Sheehy, Paddy Tierney, Johnny Murphy, Stephen O’Brien. Tickets are €2 and are available from Granagh United, soccer promoters and local outlets.

Sympathy: The death of the late Mrs Breda O’Leary, Athlacca, was learned with deep regret as she was the heart and soul of every organisation in the parish. My personal recollection of her is sharing the successful results of further educational FAS courses in Kilmallock. Her attitude was so encouraging in every field of knowledge. This was only one of the many great virtues that Breda portrayed in her everyday life, as a great promoter of sport, recreation and every organisation in Athlacca. May she rest in peace.

Bryan McMahon Play: “Honey Spike” drama by Bryan McMahon is the next play scheduled to be performed by Granagh Drama Group.
