CHURCH NEWS: This Thursday is the feast of the Assumption and masses will be in Boher on Wednesday evening at 7-30 pm and Thursday at 10-am and in Murroe church on Wednesday at 6-30 pm and the usual 9 am and 11-30 am on Thursday.

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning in aid of Fr Tommy Laffan’s Mission in Kenya will be held in Boher Community Centre on Sunday, August 25 after 10 am mass.

FESTIVAL IN MURROE: The Festival Parade and official opening will be on Friday night, August 23. The festival will include the following; Mary from Murroe Pageant and entertainment in the Festival Marquee, 5K Fun Run / Walk, Family Fun Day, Tug-o’-war competition and entertainment in local venues across the weekend. Volunteers are always welcome to help out with the planning and running the various events and there are all sorts of volunteering opportunities, from one hour of your time upwards. If you’d like to get involved, please call Ciaran (085-7257842). The Murroe 5k Road race / walk will be held on August 24 at 11h00 and the categories are as follows: Senior Men, Senior Women, Men over 40, Men over 50, Junior Boys and Girls (U21), Women over 35, Women over 40, Families and walkers. It is very helpful and cheaper for you and also shortens the registration time if you pre-register. Just send an e-mail to 5krace@murroe.net with your name & category. SENIOR CITIZENS’ TRIP: Murroe/Boher Senior Citizens’ trip will take place this year to Bundoran from September 14 to 16 and for more information, please contact Liz Barron at 087 1543563.

PHARMACY FOR MURROE: A pharmacy will open soon in Murroe village which will give a much-needed service to the local people who, up to now, have had to travel to the neighbouring villages to obtain their medical needs.

MURROE-BOHER CAMOGIE: In the first round of the Championship, Murroe-Boher 3-10 Kilmallock 1-12, which was a fine win for the girls’ first outing in the Championship, taking on last year’s winners of the Junior Championship, Kilmallock. Murroe-Boher started well dominating Kilmallock in all positions and lead at half time 2-8 to 0-3. Kilmallock came out a different team after half time and started to dominate in most positions. Thankfully Murroe-Boher kept on trying and eventually got a goal to settle the ship and thankfully went on to win. This victory put them straight into the County Semi-final, which is fixed for September 7. The team was: Aine Fogarty, Helena Hayes, Anne O’Connor, Fiona O’Malley, Caroline Hickey, Catherine McCormack, Ruth O’Connor, Fiona Toomey, Michelle Norris, Mairead O’Brien (0-1), Catriona Laffan (1-5), Louise Crowley (0-1), Eleanor Murnane (0-1), Amy McNamara (1-0), Aine Coughlan (0-1). Subs: Kerry Moroney (1-1), Lisa Ryan, Clodagh Buckley, Ruth Fitzgerald, Mary O’Connor, Susan Boyle. Well done to all players and management. Training will continue every Monday and Wednesday night in preparation for their semi-final. Murroe-Boher Camogie club would like to wish the four Murroe-Boher lads involved in the Senior and Minor teams the very best of luck in the All-Ireland Semi finals on this coming Sunday. They also want to wish Karen Cunningham the very best of luck, as she represents Limerick, in Croke Park on Sunday where she will play with other County representatives at half-time of the Senior Game. They would like to thank everyone who kindly gave their unwanted clothes, shoes, bed linen, bags etc for the recent clothes collections. They are continuing to collect good quality unwanted clothes, paired shoes, bed linen, bags, toys etc. on the last Saturday of every month from 7 pm to7.45 pm in the GAA clubhouse, Murroe. The next collection will be on August 31.

MURROE-BOHER GAA: Murroe-Boher GAA wishes every success and best of luck to the four hurlers who represent the club on this Sunday when they line out for Limerick in the All-Ireland Senior and Minor Hurling Semi-Finals in Croke Park. Seamus Hickey and Seanie Tobin will face Clare in the Senior game and Darragh Kennedy and Mike Dee will face Galway in the Minor Semi-Final. The Club is very proud to be so well represented on the County teams at this level and best of luck to all.
