NIALL MELLON DRAMA FUNDRAISER: Rated as “Must See” by The New York Times, supporters of high quality drama will have an opportunity to see this unique show when Pat Kinevane brings his one man play “SILENT” to The Woodlands Hotel on Thursday, September 4. Pat is kindly giving his performance free gratis to support The Niall Mellon Project, which this year will see a school and health centre being built in one of the most deprived parts of Kenya. LIMERICK WEST GIY: Limerick West GIY, with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food, goes on the road again and this month we will pay a visit to Chris Enright’s growing area in Morenane, Kilcornan on Thursday 15 August with meeting time for the garden tour for 7pm. Chris has a garden that is just over two years old and has both fruit and vegetable areas. Although it is mid season in his garden with many of the crops now being harvested for winter storage Chris grows all year round so there will always be some produce to view with cabbage, potato and different varieties of pumpkin among the many crops sown. This year he has sown a number of varieties of potato from Sharpe’s Express, the blight resistant Sarpo range and a midlands variety called Black Bog. A tasting session of these varieties among others will take place later in the evening. Chris is an organic grower and is always willing to share his knowledge. AUTUMN FAIR: Desmond Complex Newcastle West are holding an “AUTUMN FAIR” from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday 25 August on the grounds of Desmond Complex. There will be many attractions on the day including stalls, music, games for children and a draw with some valuable prizes. This fair is intended as a fundraiser, but it will also provide information to the people of the local area on the facilities we provide for various groups of people from far and wide. CLIONA’S FOUNDATION CYCLE: Cliona’s Foundation Cycle, now in its 6th year, will take place on Saturday August 31 from the Honeyfitz Theatre in Lough Gur, just 20km from Limerick city. With three routes including an 8km for family and funsters, the organisers have appealed to experienced cyclists with a challenging 90km route and a 40km less arduous route for leisure cyclists. Following the cycle there’s a BBQ, face painting, music and a bouncy castle to keep the entire family entertained. So popular is cycling that Cliona’s Foundation has founded it’s own cycling club which is affiliated to Cycling Ireland and is gaining new members each week. Cliona’s Foundation 6th Annual Charity Cycle was launched in Limerick last weekend by three well known celebrities who were delighted to be part of the event. David Wallace, Leanne Moore and Joy Neville have carved national and international fame in their own right and have supported Cliona’s Foundation over the years. Register on line by logging onto or on the day with registration starting at 8.30am in the Honeyfitz Theatre. Family Cycle starts at 9.45 a.m., Experienced Cycle starts at 10am & Leisure Cycle starts at 10.30 a.m. Entry is €30 for the Experienced and Leisure Cycles and €25 for the Family Cycle. KILCORNAN PLATFORM DANCING GATHERING: The Kilcornan ‘Platform Dancing Committee’ has chosen Sunday September 1 for the next session outside the gates of Curraghchase, to be held between 3.00 and 6.00 pm. As usual Pat O’Connell will be calling the dances to the very popular musician Michael Sexton. The opportunity to involve local balladeers and artists will be given and all for free.

MEETINGS:There is a closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) in the C.B.S National School,Rathkeale Rd, Adare every Sunday night at 8:30 for anyone who might think they have a problem with alcohol or who need help to stop drinking.
