SYMPATHY: The passing of Alice Franklin nee Ryan; At the age of 87 the sudden passing of Alice Franklin nee Ryan of “The Fields”, Corelish has occasioned great sadness throughout Pallasgreen and among her relatives great neighbours and friends.. Predeceased by her husband Jack in 2010 they were a popular and respected couple in the community and neighbouring townslands. They had reached the milestone of over 50 years of married life. The late Alice despite her longevity was a very independent lady. Having spent 55 years in Corelish she worked hard on the farm with her late husband. She was a friendly and endearing lady and liked nothing more than neighbours calling for the odd chat and a cuppa. Her passing has taken with her a wealth of knowledge and history and left a void in the area not easily replaced.

A group has been formed to spearhead a major charity drive this year which will consist of a number of fundraising events taking place on the weekend of October 18th – 20th. The main event the “Walk of Life” – a 5km walk which will take place in six venues around Limerick City and County, will involve every parish in Limerick. There will be one walk held in East Limerick and the proposed venue for same is in Glenstal, Murroe.

We would really appreciate the support of all communities throughout the county and with this in mind we are asking you to put forward a member of your organisation that might help us to organise the fundraising effort. GAA NEWS: Thursday night saw two games played in Pallasgreen. First of all our under 12s played Bruff in football. It was a very exciting match with both teams committed to attacking, and we saw the lead change hands a number of times over the course of the game. However it was Bruff who ended the game victorious on a score of 5-4 to 4-5. Soon after the end of the U-12s game our Junior B hurlers lined out for a East League match against Caherline. Despite a slow start Pallasgreen were able to convert three goal chances in the first half to leave the game tightly balanced at 1-12 to 3-4 at half time. In the second half Pallas started much the stronger and looked good for the win. However a dismissal of a Pallas player changed the balance of the game and Caherline used their extra man to good effect, winning on a scoreline of 2-17 to 4-9. Scorers were: Anthony Daly 1-2, Ciaran Ryan (M) 0-4 (3 frees 1 65), Declan O’Connor, Padraig Franklin and Brian McCarthy 1-0 each, Joe O’Keefe 0-2, Martin O’Brien 0-1. Friday night saw our Senior footballers play Ballysteen in the All County Football League. Three well taken goals from Ballysteen saw them lead at half time by 3-6 to nine points. In the second half however Pallasgreen upped their performance from a lacklustre first half and outscored Ballysteen by eight points, to leave the final score for the game a 2-15 to 3-10 victory for Pallasgreen. Scorers were: Chris McMahon 0-5 (1 free), Seamus Mulcahy 1-1, Alan Wallace 1-0, Jonathon Deere 0-3, Kevin Barry 0-2 (1 free), Pa Roche, Mike Moloney, Owen Roche and Seamus Hayes 0-1 each. Pallasgreen played Ahane in the East Junior A Football League final on Saturday night in Caherline. A tentative first half, in which both teams were finding their feet, saw Pallas lead by five points to four. Early in the second half Ahane seemed to get a grip on the game, edging slightly ahead, but Pallasgreen came back strongly with a goal and a point from Duane O’Carroll and a number of well taken frees from Joe O’Keefe to finish the game victorious by a score of 1-10 to 0-9. Socrers were: Joe O’Keefe 0-7 (all frees), Duane O’Carroll 1-1 (1 point penalty), Trevor McMahon and Theo Butler a point each. The new season’s training and matches are well under way. New members are always welcome. Hurling Training for U6, U8 & U10 every Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. Football Training for U6, U8 & U10 every Sunday morning at 11am.
