After a series of well attended meetings in Garrydoolis NS, plans for this Summer’s festival are being put together by a newly formed committee made up of various citizens from the parish. While these plans are at an early stage they are being developed further at each meeting and all in attendence agree that the Sarsfield 320 Festival has excellent potential for both the young and the old in the area. Starting with an official opening on Thursday evening July 25th the festival will consist of sporting events, historical talks and walks, crossroads dancing, trad music sessions, childrens funday, sports day, BBQ’s, live music,5km walk and of course, culminating in a Memorial Service and laying of wreaths for Patick Sarsfield on Sunday July 28th,(the eve of his death in 1693, Landen, Belgium) at Templebraden Church, Ballyneety. Lots of work and organisation will be needed in the coming weeks and months to ensure that we put our ‘best foot forward’ but we are in no doubt that it will be a great credit to the people of the district when finalised. If you feel you can contribute or you just want to see what’s going on please contact 0879221205/0872852155/0878381536 and we will let you know when festival meetings are happening. A festival website will also be in place shortly, details of which will be given to you when completed.
