Defibrillator Update: A church gate collection was held on December 14th 2013 to help raise funds for the replacement of the defib outside the Muintir na Tire Hall. A sum of €520 was collected. Thanks to all who contributed so generously.

MURROE AFC: The following are the winners from the Murroe AFC Annual draw held in the Valley Inn on Sunday, December 22; 1st, €1000, Mike O’ Malley, Five Roads, 2nd to 6th, €100 each to Liam & Ann Murphy, Boher, Bobby Cusack, Liscreagh, Catríona Hickey, Eyon, Megan Landers, Murroe and Fr Tom Ryan. The turkey & ham were won by Finbarr Cusack, Pónaire Hamper by John Sheridan, Christmas Hamper by Laura Kelly, and drinks hamper by Kevin O’ Sullivan. 10 prizes of €50 each were won by the following, P.J Gibbs, Frank Walsh, Jim Roulston, Shane Power, Denis O’ Connor, Áine McGuigan, Norma O’ Malley, Gina Fitzsimons, Liz Barron and Alannagh Russell. Kevin Moloney, Monaleen, won a Naughton’s Oil Voucher; Henry Richardson won a Hennessy box set with Norma O Malley, Pat Riordan, and Marie O’ Sullivan and Nicole Butler also winning prizes on the night. The club wishes to say a big thank you to all who supported the draw. The club had had some good news on the playing front with a number of players been selected for the Limerick County Emerging Talent programmes as follows; under-12 Boys, Eoin Madigan and Jim Roulston, under-13 Boys, Devon Ryan, Eoghan Burke and David Hickey, under-14 Girls, Karen Cunningham, Deirdre Crowe, Orla Regan and Anna Madigan, and under-16 Girls, Alannagh Russell, Sarah Shortt, Saoirse Barry, Sarah Jane Barry, Shauna Ryan, Claire Kelly, Gráinne Regan and Keely Lenihan. Finally, congratulations to the under-18 Girls squad who won the LWSSL Premier League title last week defeating Kilmallock 2-0 and Bruff 3-1 to secure a first ever under-18 title for the club.

BOHER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Boher Community Development Association Parish Social will take place on Friday, January 31, in the Millennium Centre, Caherconlish. This social promises to be a very enjoyable night with music, dancing and an auction held during the night to help raise funds for the upkeep of our Community Centre. Committee members will visit all houses in the Parish over the next two weeks, selling tickets for the event. Tickets cost €10 each. Boher Parish Calendar is on sale throughout Murroe and Boher at a cost of €5. Calendars will be on sale outside Boher Church following next Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses. The results of last week’s progressive 45 are; 1st, Paddy O’Connor and Pasty Laffan, 2nd, Brendan Quirke and Francis Boyle and 3rd, Pat and Mary O’Connell. Table prizes were won by Sean Collins and Dan Shanahan and Larry Quigley and Tony Quinn.

FIRST NEW YEAR 45 DRIVE RESULTS: The winners of last week’s 45 Drive were: First prize went to Kathleen Costelloe & Eamonn Cooke and Noel Foley & Maureen Collins. Second prize went to Paddy Rainsford & Enda Coughlan. Third prize went to Michael & Gerard Ryan. Table prizes were won by Kathleen Boyle & Peggy Fitzgerald and Con Galligan & Eddie Quinlan.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY TALK: Murroe-Boher Historical Society presents a talk by Mr Joseph Lennon on ‘The Down Survey Maps & the Cromwellian Settlement of Limerick’. This will take place at the Fitzgerald Room of the Muintir na Tire Hall, Murroe, on this Thursday, January 16, at 8.30 pm, sharp. All are most welcome.

CRAFT CLUB: A craft club consisting of patch-work, general sewing etc will commence on this coming Monday, January 20, at the Millennium Centre, Caherconlish, from 10-00 am to 12 noon. All are welcome for a chat and cup of tea.
