BIGGEST LOSER WEIGHTLOSS EVENT: Do yourself a favour and help Knockane GAA too! We are looking for volunteers, male and female, from the surrounding area to begin an 8 week weight loss and fundraising campaign. Beginning on Monday next Jan 20th we will, thereafter, have fortnightly weighins at Garrydoolis NS culminating in a ‘Grand Finale’ night on Sunday March 16th at the school and, later, a celebration(optional)at the Idler Bar, Knockane.

Knockane GAA club will employ professional nutrionist, Karen Prendergast to set out a weight loss programme and she will also monitor the volunteers progress during this 8 week period.

In return we will be asking each volunteer to raise €500 in sponsorship for our club which will be used to help further the development of our new grounds at Sarsfield’s Cross.

We will of course also supply each person with sponsorship cards and help re- ideas and encouragement to meet both their weight loss and monetary targets.

By March 16th both You and Knockane GAA club should have benefitted greatly from this fun, doable and lifelong good habits programme, so come on, no excuses, we are now giving YOU the motivational reason to start(and finish) 2014 in a positive and healthy way. O’DWYER’S BAR GOLF SOCIETY: The AGM of the Society will take place this Friday evening January 17th in O’Dwyer’s Bar at 9.30pm. Outgoing chairman Joe Heelan will hand over his captaincy to John Linnane for the 2014 year and we wish him every success. On the night the list of the 2014 events and venues will be disclosed. Members and new members are very welcome.

ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES: Evening Classes for Spring 2014 in John the Baptist Community School, 061 383173: Art, Digital Photography,Set dancing and Zumba dancing. Registration will take place from 2:00pm - 7:00pm on Thursday 16th January 2014. Classes will commence the following week.

CONFERENCE ON SPORT AND SPIRITUALITY: St Patrick’s College, Thurles will host a Conference entitled “ Exploring the link between Sport and Spiruality” on the 24th and 25th of January. The Conference will be of interest to a variety of sports practitioners including coaches, managers, players, athletes and those with a genuine interest in sport psychology and spirituality. HUNT MUSEUM: The Hunt Museum recently created a community events section of their ‘What’s on’ tab on the Hunt Museum website. This is an opportunity for local community groups and history societies to promote upcoming events or lectures and to also keep in touch with what is happening in the city and county throughout the year. The Hunt Museum is keen to promote local community events such as history talks, fieldtrips, local drama productions etc. If you would like to avail of this service then please email me a list of the events for 2014 and I will ensure that they are included.

ARCHDIOCESE PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES 2014: The Archdiocese pf Cashel & Emly Pilgrimage to Lourdes take place this year from 16-21 June. Cost all inclusive is €708. Flights from Shannon Airport and return.

PROGRESSIVE 45 CARDS: These continue every Tuesday night in the Community Centre at 8.30pm. All are welcome.

COURSES IN HOSPITAL COMMUNITY SCHOOL: The Spring session of Adult Education Classes will commence in St John the Baptist Community School Hospital on Thursday 23rd January. Enrolment will take place this Thursday from 2pm to 7pm. The proposed classes include Art Digital Photography Set Dancing & Sean Nos and Zumba dancing and are for 8 weeks. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2014: The University of Limerick is set to welcome the 2014 Special Olympics Ireland Games back to Limerick in June 2014. The University will host the games, which were officially launched at UL today, over four days from Thursday 12th June to Sunday 15th June. In what will be one of the largest and most prestigious sporting events to take place in Ireland next year, 1,500 Special Olympics athletes from throughout the island of Ireland will travel to Limerick. They will be accompanied by 500 coaches and official delegates as well as a contingent of over 3,000 family members. The Games will be supported by a team of 3,000 volunteers who have been, and will continue be, recruited from the Midwest region over the next number of months.

Special Olympics Ireland would not exist today without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of volunteers. Every day in communities all over the island of Ireland, thousands of individuals take a little time from their busy schedules to help change the lives of people with an intellectual disability.To join our extraordinary team of volunteers you must be over 15 years of age and complete our volunteer registration process. GAA NEWS: Club mass for deceased members and current members will take place this Saturday at 6.30pm in Nicker Church

Girls development training: Training for Girls who will be aged 7 in 2014 & upwards will takes place starting Monday 20th January at 6.30pm in Community Centre.

Registration Night: Juvenile registration night will take place at 4pm on Sunday 26th January in the Community Centre. Members’ registration is €10 per player up to a maximum of €30 per family. Presentation of County medals for U16 & Minors will take place on the same night at 5.30pm.

Senior Club Registration: Membership is now due for adult members of Pallasgreen GAA club. Price for the year is €20 for adults and €10 for U-18s. All players have to have their membership paid by March 31 in order to be registered for their respective teams. Membership can be paid to either David McGuinness, Club Secretary or Brian Shanahan, Registrar.

Club Training: Conditioning training for all players starts on Friday 17th January. Training will take place in Glenstal Abbey Murroe every Friday 7.30-9.00pm & Tuesday 8.30-9.30pm for U-21s, Juniors Intermediate Hurling and Senior Football. The Minor panel sessions will take place 7:30-8:30p.m. Tuesdays and 6:00-7:30p.m. Fridays. It will cost €5 per week (Fri/Tues). Please be there 10 mins before training is due to start. Pay annual membership and €40 cost of training before the first session, and receive a free lotto ticket for each of the next three draws.

Scholarship: Munster Gaeltacht Scholarship. Any club member that wishes to apply for a Scholarship to attend an Irish Summer Course at one of the Munster Gaeltacht Colleges, please contact David McGuinness 087 2477674

GAA National Club Draw: The GAA are holding a draw on March 17 to support clubs throughout the country. Prizes to be won in the draw include a trip to Australia for the 2014 International Rules series, All Ireland Football Final Tickets with All-Stars banquet tickets and paid trip to Boston, All Ireland Football and Hurling finals corporate boxes tickets, and much more. Tickets for the draw cost €10, with all proceeds going to the selling clubs. If interested in supporting Pallasgreen GAA in the draw, tickets are available for purchase from all committee members and adult players of the club.

Bingo: Pallasgreen GAA Bingo takes place every Wednesday at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. Come along for a night out and win some great prizes on offer. All are welcome
