KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB: Training continues for upcoming county four mile championships in Rathkeale, on Sunday January 26. It is an event that we have always done well in with both our men’s and women’s teams winning the event in the last few years as well as having last years men’s champion James Gubbins. This year, we will hoping to maintain our proud record of success.

Thursday night training under lights is proving very popular with newcomers and experienced runners alike. The focus of many in attendance is the Galtee Runner 5k run in Ballygiblin on Sunday February 23 , this event is ideal even for those who have yet to start their new year resolution. Training continues every Thursday from 7-8pm.

A scouting run in the Ballyhoura’s led by Martin Hennessy and Vincent O Donnell proved very successful last Sunday. Despite the poor weather, a 5k route suitable for beginners and a more demanding 10k were picked out. This lends itself to our plan of having an off road training run every couple of weeks throughout 2014. On a related note the Munster mountain running association are having their next race in the Ballyhoura’s on this SundayJanuary 19 at 1pm. Registration opens at 11:30am at the mountain bike centre. It is just under 7 km long for adults and there is a smaller 2 km loop for juniors at 12 pm. Parents can jog or walk this with their kids if they are very young. This might be of interest to those who would like to try some off-road running
