ENCOUNTERS: Encounters – a collection of artwork in the possession of the governments of the Republic and Northern Ireland will be on view at the Red Door Gallery, The Square, Newcastle West from Thursdays to Saturdays between 12.30 and 4 pm, until January 18. It is well worth a visit.

RED CROSS CHIROPODY CLINIC: The Red Cross Chiropody Clinic will be held at 5 Bishop St, Newcastle West on Monday, January 20. If you wish to avail of this service, please make an appointment by contacting Pat at 069-62306.

DESMOND COMPLEX: The next Fun Day will take place on Wednesday, February 5. All the usual activities will take place and we are hopeful of a large attendance. We would like to remind people to contact Brendan on (069) 84069 to enable us to have a good approximation of numbers. We would also like to remind people about the hospitalities offered by the Desmond Complex. Dinners are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of every week – with music on most days. Groups can also be accommodated but require advance bookings by ringing the office on (069) 62757 during normal working hours. We would like to extend our best wishes to Margaret who is ill at this time. Margaret is ever present at our Fun days. We hope to see her back in the near future.

CELEBRATION OF LIGHT: A Celebration of light for those bereaved by suicide will be held in the Church on Sunday, January 26 at 4pm. All are welcome to attend.

PANTO PUSS IN BOOTS: The Panto ‘Puss in Boots’ takes place on Sunday, February 16 in the I.N.E.C. Killarney – leaving Newcastle West at 4.30pm. This is a very popular night out and early booking is strongly advised. We have a number of places already booked. Contact Maureen (087-9845102).

SUE RYDER: De-clutter your wardrobe, look under your bed, check out your attic, garage and shed. I’m sure you’ll find items you no longer need and we’ll find home for them. We need clothes and shoes of all shapes and sizes, unwanted gift & unwanted prizes. We also would like some curtains and bedding, or that old china tea-set you got for your wedding. Please take some time to look around the house – we’ll take almost everything – expect your partner or spouse. Many thanks for the amazing support we receive from great people like you for your kind donations and purchases. BAPTISM PREPARATION PROGRAMME: A Baptism Preparation Programme will take place in the Parish Centre at 8 pm on Tuesday, January 28. SAMARITANS: The Samaritans have introduced a new free-to-caller telephone number – 116123, which is being piloted in Limerick City, County and North Tipperary. Because of limited funds, they are asking as many people as possible to distribute details of the number. Please help to spread the word. Thank you.

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS PROGRAMME: Participants are now being sought for a new Employability Skill Programme which will start this January and run two mornings per week ( Monday & Friday) from 9.30 am to 1pm. The course will cover core modules including Functional Maths, Team-work, Work Experience and a language (tbc). The course is a FETAC level 4 programme – delivered by the Limerick Education and Training Board. RAINBOWS SUPPORT PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN: Rainbows is a free support group for children between the ages of 4 to 12 years. It is designed to assist children and youths who are grieving a death, separation, any other painful transition or change in their family. Run by trained volunteers, the programme is not a counseling or therapy service, but is instead, a safe confidential setting, where children can share their grief associated feelings with each other and with trained facilitators. The new progammes will begin in Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale in early 2014, and will run for one hour per week for twelve weeks. TRÓCAIRE: Trócaire’s door-to-door fundraisers are in our area at the moment and are clearly identifiable - wearing a blue branded Trócaire jacket and carrying photo ID. They will be raising awareness of Trócaire’s work and asking people to support Trócaire with a monthly direct debit.

AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF LIMERICK DIOCESE: A new illustrated history of Limerick Diocese has just been produced. As well as giving a history of the diocese – it includes a short history of each parish. Beautifully illustrated, this book is priced at €20 will be on sale as you leave the Church after Mass.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED: Volunteers are required for English Language classes in Newcastle West in the New Year. Volunteers do not require any specific qualifications or experience but must be willing to commit to volunteer 1.5 hours per week for an 8-10 week period to support small groups of 3-4 people at a time to develop their English language conversation skills. CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: The Youth Ministry Team in the diocese are organising a pilgrimage on the Camino in Spain next summer. The Camino De Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes – stretching across Europe, and coming together at the tomb of St. James in Santiago De Compostella in Northern Spain. It has become very popular with people from all over Europe in recent years and is particularly popular with Irish Pilgrims. The proposed pilgrimage of young adults (21 or over at the time of travelling) will take place from July 8 to July 15, 2014. The cost of the pilgrimage is not yet fixed, but it is hoped it will not exceed € 600. Those who would like find out more are invited to attend an information evening in the Limerick Diocesan Pastoral Centre on Friday, November 29 at 7.30pm.
