MATCH REPORT – DESMOND LEAGUE LADIES U14 DIVISION 1: Askeaton 1, Adare United 2. Adare Utd - fresh from their Bank Holiday Monday “top of the table clash” with Ballingarry - travelled to Askeaton AFC with a reduced squad after three wins from their first three games. On what was, at times, a very wet and miserable afternoon, the supporters were well pleased to be able to shelter in the “Stands” in Askeaton. The game itself turned out to be very sporting with the wind and weather conditions playing a large part. Adare got off to a bright start with lots of interplay in midfield between Lauren, Aoife Hickey, Orla and Sive. With a small bit of luck in front of goals, Adare could have been one or two ahead in the first ten minutes. Adare’s first goal came from a fine break by Shannon down the right and a cracking shot hit the post and rebounded to Edel who finished to the net. Adare’s back four of Aisling, Amy, Gillian and Aoife Mulneaux coped well with the Askeaton attack. When called upon, Kristina was equal to the challenge and had some fine long clearances to restart the Adare attack. At half time, Adare changed formation and went on the attack from the kick-off. A fine solo break from Shannon from the half-way line led to Adare’s second goal when she finished clinically to the net. Thereafter, Askeaton made use of the elements and placed a lot of pressure on Adare’s goals. Adare introduced Ciara and Kate into the game midway through the second half. Askeaton scored a well-deserved goal from the edge of the box and kept pressure on Adare for the rest of the half but were unable to add to their tally. This completed Adare’s first set of matches with a 100% record with the return matches against the other four teams to come. Scorers : Shannon Parbat and Edel Kelliher. Adare’s squad for the match – Kristina O’Brien, Gillian O’Donnell, Aoife Mulyneaux, Sive O’Halloran, Orla Kelliher, Kate O’Farrelly, Ciara Moroney, Lauren Ryan, Aisling Smyth, Aoife Hickey, Amy Harnett, Edel Keliher and Shannon Parbat. Trainer: Eoin Ryan. Manager: Eithne O’Riordan.
