PASTORAL COUNCIL: We have nine Pastoral Areas in our diocese, each with a team of clergy and parish representatives to guide its work. You can read about them on www.limerickdiocese.org. Bishop Leahy invited all PA team members to a gathering in the South Court Hotel on Tuesday, October 23. It was an introduction to a vision for our work together, a good opportunity for networking and a positive, informative and inspiring evening for all concerned.
SAFEGUARDING: There will be a safeguarding gathering for our Pastoral Area (Tuatha Phadraig Naofa) on the November 14 at 8:00pm in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West.
The evening will be facilitated by one of our Diocesan Trainers; Aoife Walsh or Fr. Chris O’Donnell.
The outline for the gathering will be to introduce the new Parish Safeguarding Representatives for the parishes in our pastoral area; to go over some basic safeguarding children information and to familiarise people with the newly launched Diocesan Safeguarding Children Policy and Resources.
The last safeguarding children information sessions held in the Diocese were in 2009, so this gathering is important as the National Board Standards and Guidance Document recommends that these sessions be held at least every three years.
These gatherings also help people to realise that safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility and that we all have a duty of care towards the children and young people that we come into contact with.
It is recommend that the following people be invited to attend.
The priests of the parish, Sacristans, Representatives from the Parish Pastoral Council, Eucharistic Ministers Readers of the Word and others involved in Church Ministry.
Leaders with Youth Group / Children’s Liturgy / In Memory of Me Team / Confirmation Programme Team / Youth Choir / Other youth ministry group leaders/Anyone else who you feel might be interested (Parents / Grandparents / Teachers / B.O.M representatives / Others involved in youth activities in the Parish)
