CHRISTMAS FAIR: Bilboa National School will hold its annual Christmas Fair on Sunday, November 17, at 2 pm in the Community Centre, Cappamore. This event is now in its 27th year and has always proven to be a very enjoyable day out with a huge variety of competitions and entertainment to suit all ages. There is something for everyone; Wheel of fortune, Santa, coats & handbags stall, bric-a-brac, cakes, toys, books, games, competitions, children’s entertainment and lots, lots more. All proceeds will go towards the development of the school.
45 DRIVE RESULTS: The 45 Drive has now returned to its usual home at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe after renovations and a fine crowd turned up for the event. It was also great to see Breeda Ahern back to herself after being indisposed earlier in the year. The winners of last week’s 45 Drive were: First prize of €110 went to Con Galligan & Eddie Quinlan. Second prize of €80 went to Davy Holmes & John Lynch and Liz Barron & Jer Riordan and Paschal & Liz Grant. Third prize of €70 went to Dick Laffan & Donie Coffey. Table prizes were won by Nora Lonergan & Mrs Quigley and Breeda Ahern & Kathleen Costelloe and Connie Hayes & Frank Kelly.
MURROE-BOHER HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Murroe-Boher Historical Society is delighted to present a talk by Ms Irene Hynes of Castleconnell on ‘’Irish Place-names’’ at Crokers, Murroe, on this Thursday, November 7, starting at 8.30 pm sharp. All are very welcome. The Society wishes to say a warm word of thanks to all who supported the fund raising Table Quiz recently which was a great success. A special thank you to Mr Frank Ryan who prepared the questions and to the proprietors and staff of the Valley Inn for hosting the event. Also, the society has a beautiful calendar for 2014 for sale, photographed by Eric Laumenech and it would be a beautiful addition to any household. The cost is €8-00 and it is available at all local retail outlets.
CHURCH NEWS: A church gate collection for the upkeep of the village playground will be held this weekend, November 9 and 10. The recent church gate collection for Bord na NOg realised a total of €668 and the organisers are very thankful for all who contributed so generously. A parish celebration with readings, prayers, music, hymns and reflection involving all organisations and clubs in the parish was held in Murroe church at 6-30 pm on last Friday, November 1. Representatives from up to 60 local organisations took part in a procession which was ecumenical in nature with Father Tom Ryan, Dean Sandra Pragnell, Father Anthony of Glenstal Abbey and new parish priest of Murroe/Boher, Father Lochlainn Brennan, presiding. The event was well organised by the Parish Team and tea and refreshments were available across the road in the GAA club-house afterwards. The Cashel and Emly annual Lourdes dinner dance takes place this weekend on Saturday, November 9, at Dundrum House Hotel, with dinner at 8-30 pm sharp. Music is by John Gorman and the cost of a ticket is €25 with further information to be had from Liz Barron at 087 1543563.
THREE EVENTS ON THIS SUNDAY: On this coming Sunday, November 10 at 4 pm the unveiling and blessing of a plaque commemorating the late Canon John Hayes, founder of Muintir na Tíre, will take place at Ballyvoreen. At 6 pm, the official re-opening of the Muintir na Tíre Hall after extensive renovation will take place and at 7 pm, a special presentation will be made to Father Tom Ryan to mark his retirement as parish priest of Murroe/Boher. All are welcome to all of these events.
MURROE AFC: Murroe under-14 girls continued their winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Knocklong last weekend. Karen Cunningham with 2, Orla Regan, Ciara Greaney, Bethany Ranson and Ruan O’Donovan scored for Murroe. The under-12 boys also had a good 6-0 win over Rathkeale. Jay Ryan scored a hat trick and Jamie Cummins, Jamie Newton, and Cillian O’Shea also netted for Murroe. The club would like to congratulate Grainne Regan on her selection and participation for the Irish under-16 training camp this week in Dublin. A squad of 28 girls from all over Ireland were selected from previous trials and Grainne spent 2 days in Dublin on intensive training. It is a great achievement to get this far and the club hopes that she will be selected for the final match squad due to announced before Christmas. The annual Christmas Draw will soon get under way and full details of it will be available next week.
