CARDS: The results of last weekâ€™s card game at Monagea Parish Hall were 1st, with nine games, Pat Lynch and Jimmy Murphy. 2nd divided three ways, with eight games each, Donal Mulcahy and Pat, Peter Talbot and Eileen Geary, Catherine Wrenne and Tess Keating. Table prizes Con Cregan and Mike Cronin, Bobby Mullane and Theresa Hough, Con and Ester Horgan. Raffle Johnny Enright, Chrissie Roche, Kathleen Oâ€™Gorman, Annie Leahy. The card game continues every Wednesday night at 9pm.
MONAGEA GAA REUNION: They came from Dublin, Meath and many parts of Munster for the reunion of the Monagea Junior teams of 1986 and 1987 n Strand on Saturday night last. In 1986 Monagea won the county Junior B football championship. In the following year, 1987, they captured the county Junior B hurling crown. No doubt there were many stories relived by the players and supporters of those two years.
MONAGEA GAA 300 CLUB DRAW: The first draw in the Monagea GAA 300 club will take place in Strand on this Friday night November 8. There are still some places available so contact any club member to join. There are four draws in total, all of which will take place before Christmas. The cost is â‚¬50 ie â‚¬12.50 per draw. Each draw has a prize fund of â‚¬1900. The prizes are as follows - â‚¬1000, â‚¬400, â‚¬200, 2 x â‚¬50. In addition there will be extra cash prizes, in the first draw, for fully paid up members. This is one of the clubs main fundraisers each year so they look forward to filling the numbers again this year.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEA DANCING: A very big crowd attended last Sundayâ€™s afternoon tea dance in Monagea Parish Hall. The very popular Dermot Lyons provided the music and the floor was full to capacity all day. All those who attended had a very enjoyable day. The next afternoon tea dance takes place on Sunday 1st December. Dancing to the music of the Michael Sexton one man band.
GRAVEYARD MASS: The annual Monagea graveyard mass will be celebrated in Monagea church on Sunday November 24th at 12 noon. After the mass the graves will be blessed. On that Sunday the regular 10am mass will not be celebrated. A collection for the upkeep of the graveyard will be taken up at the Saturday evening mass on November 23rd and at the 12 noon mass on November 24th. The graveyard committee would like to thank Mike Guiry and his FAS crew from Newcastle West for the wonderful work they have done throughout the year in keeping the graveyard so neat and tidy. The committee would also like people to attend to their family graves before November 24th.
WEST LIMERICK 102FM FUNDRAISERS: West Limerick 102fm has two fundraising events later in November. On Friday 22nd they are organising a ceili at Knockaderry Community Centre. Dancing from 9.30pm to the music of Donie Nolan. Refreshments will be served.
On Sunday November 24 they will hold their monthly car boot sale at the community centre in Newcastle West. Gates will open at 7.30am for stallholders. Further information can be got from 069 66200. The community radio station would appreciate your support.
TOURNAFULLA CEILI: The monthly ceili at Halla Tadhg Gaelach Tournafulla takes place on this Friday night November 8th. Dancing starts at 9.30pm to the Allow Ceili Band. Refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome.
CLASSES IN MONAGEA HALL: Hip hop dancing classes for children take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4.30 to 6.30pm.
Aerobics and exercise classes take place from 7.30 to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings. This is a great way to pass away the long winter nights and loose those pounds before Christmas.
On Thursday nights from 8.30 to 10.30pm there are adult dancing classes. All levels of dancers are catered for. Why not come along and enjoy a few hours dancing.
