Castleconnell-Ahane Credit Union is the first branch in Limerick to offer online banking.
Members can now pay bills and transfer funds on line from the comfort of their own home says manager, Seamus Hogan,
“We are the first Credit Union in Limerick to have this service for its members and the first community based Credit Union on the Progress system in Ireland,” said Mr Hogan, who adds that he has been working on this project with IT suppliers Progress Systems for two years. He says that members’ needs now are a lot different than five or 10 years ago and the management made a decision to invest in the future of its members and the Credit Union.
“It goes to show that the local Credit Union can still compete with the larger financial institutions while still looking after its members,” said Mr Hogan.
Their announcement comes on the back of national research carried out by Amarach Research on behalf of the Irish League of Credit unions into the standing of credit unions within the communities that they serve. The research clearly highlighted both the very high esteem in which members hold their local credit union and the clear demand from members for a wider range of services from their local credit union.
“It is clear that despite the economic turmoil, members still value the high level of service which we provide on a not-for-profit basis throughout the community in Castleconnell and Ahane. We are delighted to expand our range of services by proving full online access to accounts and also enabling our members to pay their bills or transfer funds as requested,” said Mr Hogan.
