COMMUNITY GAMES: Congratulations to our four competit ors who participated at the All-Ireland finals in Athlone recently – Calvin Nash (100m), Dearbhla Egan (Long Puck) , Cathal O’Neill (Long Puck) and Susan O’Neill (Javelin). Calvin had a great outing and reached the semi-final stages of the 100m. Dearbhla came home with a bronze medal for the U14 Long Puck, while Cathal was agonisingly close to reaching the final stages of the U12 Long Puck. Susan did very well considering that she will still be under age next year. We are all very proud of you all here in Crecora/Patrickswell.

CRAOBH NAOMH MHICHÍL CCÉ: Registration for our Traditional Irish music classes will take place on Friday September 6 in Manister Hall from 6.30 to 8p.m. Beginner classes are available in tin-whistle, fiddle, accordion, concertina, flute, banjo, bodhrán and drums. Congratulations to our branch members Áine Humphreys, Fiona Hogan, Edwin Wixted, Olive Wixted, Amy O’Connor and Shane O’Connor who entertained the crowds at half time during the minor match in Croke Park.

CRECORA-MANISTER GOLF SOCIETY: places for the outing to Woodstock on the Sept 7 are filling fast. Please contact Shane O’Hanrahan as soon as possible if you would like to participate. It should be another great day out.

LIMERICK SHOW: This year’s show took place in the racecourse last weekend. The weather was very kind to the large attendance who enjoyed such diverse competitions as show-jumping, farm-animal judging, arts and crafts, and home baking to name but a few. It was great to see so many locals among the competitors and indeed quite a few got prizes and commendations. Anybody can enter the various competitions, so any gardeners, farmers, bakers, craft hobbyists, photographers, dog-owners, horse-riders, etc. in the parish should consider entering next year.

CROOM COMMUNITY CENTRE: now taking bookings for clubs and groups for the autumn season for indoor sporting activities, centre facilitates sports such as indoor soccer, indoor hurling, basketball, badminton and volleyball. BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding a Blood Donor clinic in the South Court Hotel, Raheen, on Wednesday September 4 from 5pm - 8pm. Donations from Crecora and surrounding areas would be greatly appreciated, as it is critical to maintain adequate supplies. New donors are always most welcome. Thank you for your continued support.

ORAL HISTORY INITIATIVE: West Limerick Resources will be running an Oral History Training Initiative this autumn. Training will consist of two elements. Participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examine the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History. The second element of the training will focus on digital voice recording and editing techniques. Training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research. Training is expected to begin in October and to run one evening per week for 10 weeks. The course is free of charge and open to people living in the West Limerick area. MILFORD HOSPICE FAIR: The Annual Fair will be held in the Sports Arena, UL on Sunday 1st September from 11am to 4pm. The Cake Stall organisers are appealing to parishioners to support this major fundraising event by making a donation of cakes, buns, bread etc. You can bring your cakes to The New Resource Centre in Ballybrown, Clarina (Next to Ballybrown School and Church) on Sat between 1 and 5pm our you can contact the undersigned for collection. Cakes (and other saleable items) can be brought directly to the Fair before 12 on the day. If you need your cakes collected from home please contact Bernadette Behan, the Cake Stall Leader on 087 8162774.
