BACK TO SCHOOL: All eight schools in Shannon, two Secondary and six primary, will be back in action on Monday

POKER CLASSIC: Clare GAA is holding a Poker Classic in aid of the Clare Hurlers on Friday September 6 in the West County from 8.30pm. Tickets (€25) are available at the Goalpost Bar, Wolfe Tones GAA club .

BACK TO EDUCATION: Adults interested in studying for a part-time Leaving Certificate should attend the Back to Education Initiative information evening, commencing at 7.30pm, at the Adult Education Centre in Shannon on Tuesday September 3. ADULT EDUCATION: During the month of September information on a wide variety of adult education courses in the Mid West is available in the Library.

SENIORS CLUB: Shannon Senior Citizen’s Club meeting on Wednesday September 4 at 9 Purcell Park at 3.30pm. Committee members requested to attend.

MILFORD FAIR: The annual Milford Hospice Harvest Fair takes place on Sunday September 1 at a new location – the UL arena.

Ei ELECTRONICS CELEBRATES: An ‘Open Day’ is being held on Sunday at Ei Electronics, Shannon to celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2013 from 11am to 6pm. Ei is inviting all employees (past and present) and their families, and members of the local community, including schools, to visit the factory on that day. Enjoy!

WEDDINGS: Congratulations to Elaine Kingston, Delginis and Andy Durbin, Bristol, who were married in St. Conaire’s Church, Carrigerry, on Friday.

SHANNON MUSICAL: Shannon Musical Society will launch its 36th show, Jesus Christ Superstar, on Tuesday night at 8pm in the Shannon Knights. It offers a chance to welcome new and old members to become involved in the society.

Galway man Sean Power will be director this year and Karen Barrett will be involved with the choreography. Musical director will once again this year be Carmel Griffin. Rehearsals will get underway on September 10 at the society’s rehearsal rooms in the industrial estate at K9.

Congratulations to the front-of-house team who were runners-up at the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) awards in June.

QUIZ: Theresa McDade will be running in the London City Marathon in April next year and is trying to raise funds for Croí Heart and Stroke. Theresa is holding a quiz night this Friday night in the Goalpost Bar, Wolfe Tones GAA club at 8.30pm.

GOSPEL CHOIR: Shannon Gospel Choir will be back to rehearsals on Thursday, September 5. Rehearsals take place at Peach House from 8pm to 10pm. MONTH’S MIND: The months mind masses on Saturday at 6.30pm for Maureen Myers, Sycamore House, Drumgeely and also for George Justice, Bru na Sionna. The months mind mass for Steve Sheridan, Coill Mhara is on Sunday at 12.15pm. Both masses in SS John & Paul church.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY: The First Anniversary mass for Thomas Keane, Limerick. (brother of Marie Killeen, Collins Park)will be on Saturday at 12 noon in Mary Immaculate church.
