NATIONAL MUSIC DAY: Friday next, June 21st is National Music Day when various musical events take place all over the country. The local Comhaltas will celebrate Music Day with a session of music, song and dance at the Devon Inn and there will be a céad míle fáilte for everybody. Musicians, singers and dancers of all ages are welcome to come along and join in the session which gets underway at 9.00pm. This also provides the opportunity to celebrate the longest day of the year.

DIAMOND CELEBRATION: Congratulations to Willie and Philomena Curtin, Devon Road, Templeglantine on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. They celebrated the joyful occasion with family members and friends at the Devon Inn Hotel. Guímid dea-shláinte agus aoibhneas san saol atá rompu.

CARD GAME: The Parents Council of the local National School wishes to say míle buíochas to all who supported their fund-raising 41 card game at the Devon Inn on Wednesday last.

CÚRSAÍ EAGLAISE: Masses this week are at the usual times. The 1st anniversary mass for Jack Kelly was celebrated on Sunday last. The anniversary mass for Bridget McCarthy will take place on Friday next, for Dan Cahill on Saturday evening and for Willie Harnett on Sunday Beannacht Dé ar anamacha na marbh.

PILGRIMAGE : Anybody interested in going on the Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage climb on Saturday next are advised to have names given in for the bus by Wednesday. Booking can be done by contacting Peg at 068 31232 or the Abbeyfeale parish office at 068 31133.

COMHALTAS: The Teampall an Ghleanntáin Comhaltas is holding a session of music, song and dance on Friday night, June 21 at the Devon Inn as part of National Music Day, starting at 9.00pm. The craobh would like to see as many of its members as possible being present as well as the general public. All are welcome to join in, fáilte roimh gach éinne. The weekly Seisiún show featuring artistes from the local Comhaltas craobh will commence on Thursday, July 4th and will take place at the Devon Inn. The Comhaltas Campa Samhraidh will get underway at Halla Inse Bhán on Monday, July 1st. An appeal is being made to all branches for help with stewarding at Fleadh na Mumhan in UL on July 20 and 21. Anybody who would be willing to help out for a day or half day are asked to contact the local craobh rúnaí, Tadhg (069 84039), as soon as possible.

TRAIL WALK: The 22 mile (36Km) walk along the old railway from Abbeyfeale to Rathkeale takes place on Saturday next 22nd June (meet at Old Station, Railway Road, Abbeyfeale at 10:30 a.m.). Those intending to walk the entire route and receive a commemorative certificate should have registered with Liam O’Mahony by now [email: greatsoutherntrail@gmail.com]and . All other participants are welcome free of charge and need only turn up for whatever length/starting point that suits them[see www.southerntrail.net for detailed itinerary] and may walk, run or cycle. GRAVEYARD MAPPING: As part of the West Limerick Graveyard Mapping Project, trained volunteers will be conducting surveys in a number of graveyards across the West Limerick area for two weeks starting June 24th to July 6th with the support of Eachtra Archaeological Services. The results of all surveys will be uploaded to the website historicgraves.com where they can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
