GALBALLY SENIOR CITIZENS: Galbally Senior Citizens committee were shocked at the passing of Peggy Ryan RIP after a short illness. Peggy attended the get-togethers since their start up in 2004, and looked forward to them every month and also enjoyed the day trips and winter breaks organised for the group. For our Easter bonnet decorating Peggy brought in one of her mother’s hats and decorated it to perfection. At Christmas Peggy brought in her prized chocolate cake as a gift for the organizers and was always first on the floor when the music started. She will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace Peggy.

GALBALLY GOLF SOCIETY: Easter Bank Holiday, Monday 1st April ’13, was very cold with a wind that would cut your fingers off, but twenty-five members of the Galbally Golf Society turned up at Cahir Park Golf Club to contest the first outing of the 2013 season.

The competition of the day was ‘Singles Stableford’ and Joe McGrath efficiently organised the finances and getting groups away on the first tee box.

Despite the bad weather experienced during March, the wind of the previous days had dried the course out considerably but, due to long grass in places, the rules of the day were ‘pick and place’ everywhere.

When everyone had played their round and were enjoying a hot meal in the Clubhouse, Brian Chaplin announced the prize winners in reverse order with the Captain, Kevin Collins presenting them.

In the ‘2s’ competition only one player, John Scully, managed a ‘Birdie’ on a par 3 hole and therefore collected the kitty. ‘Longest Drive’ went to Declan Wallace and ‘Nearest the Pin’ was Tommy Hanley.

In the Category ‘B’ section, those with handicaps of 19 or more not featuring in the main prizes, second place went to Tim (g) Ryan (21) with 37 points and the winner was Tim (k) Ryan (22) also with 37 points.

The main prizes went to, third place, Paul Meade (17) 38 points, second was Tommy Hanley (16) 38 points and the winner of the day was Joe McGrath (17) with 40 points.

With the prize giving over the Captain, Kevin Collins, thank everyone for turning up on such a cold windy day and reminded them that the next outing would be in Castletroy Golf Club on Saturday 18th May with a 10.30pm start time and also to keep an eye on our Facebook page and Web site www.galballygolf.com for news and information.
