TWO GAELS AND NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOURS PASS AWAY WITHIN HOURS OF EACH OTHER: Families, friends, neighbours and parishioners were saddened by the passing of Maureen Herbert and Sean Leonard, both of whom were steeped in the GAA.

TWO GAELS AND NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOURS PASS AWAY WITHIN HOURS OF EACH OTHER: Families, friends, neighbours and parishioners were saddened by the passing of Maureen Herbert and Sean Leonard, both of whom were steeped in the GAA.

Maureen, beloved wife of the late Sean, well-known member of Ahane and Limerick hurling teams of the 40s and 50s, who won eight county championships, a national league medal and six Railway cup medals with Limerick. She was a delight to meet always had a friendly smile and a welcome for everyone. She was a very active member of the I.C.A. for over 40 years, and will be missed, particularly by the Ahane Castleconnell Guild. Maureen who passed away peacefully in her home, in Lisnagry, was laid to rest in Stradbally Cemetery, after Requiem Mass in Ahane Church. She will be sadly missed by her loving sons, Pat, Kieran, Sean óg, Fr. Tadhg, CSsR, and Kevin; daughter, Maeve; her daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Sympathy is extended to her dear family. May she rest in peace.

Sympathy is also extended to the family of Sean Leonard, beloved husband of the late Gertie, who died peacefully at his home in Lisnagry. Séan began his playing career with Claughaun and Ahane GAA Clubs. He played at senior level for Limerick for three years, and was a member of the Munster hurling championship team of 1955, and a member of the Limerick team in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final who were defeated by Wexford. Also in that year, he won a county football final with Ahane. Séan was elected chairman of Monaleen from 1976 to 1978. During that time he oversaw Monaleen winning the under-16 county hurling and football chapionships and also county senior football championships. Séan was laid to rest in Kilmurry Cemetery, after Requiem Mass in Our Lady, Help of Christian’s Church. He will be greatly missed by his loving sons, John, Diarmuid, Gerard, Cormac, Ailish (Dilger), Sinead (Hussey), Ann Marie (Gale), Eunice (Randles); his 24 grandchildren, great grand-daughter; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

AHANE GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAMS ON WINNING STREAK: Our under-12 team recorded a comprehensive win over St Ailbes Gold played in Ahane last Friday night. In a very sporting game, Ahane got off the blocks early and combined to pick off great scores throughout the match to run out worthy winners. Team on the night: Aoife Cullen, Anna Nagle, Aisling Lenihan, Niamh Conroy, Daena Ryan, Ciara Greaney, Sinead O’Curry (0-1), Ailish Reynolds (1-0), Ciara Macken (4-0), Kayleigh Blake (1-0), Jane Byrnes, Sian Fahy, Chloe O’Brien and Lara Griffin.

Our under-14 team have recorded back to back victories in the League with wins over Galtee Gaels and Killultra Gaels. In ideal conditions in Ahane last Saturday, Ahane entertained Killtula Gaels and both teams displayed great skill and teamwork. Ahane always had the edge and ran out worthy winners on a scoreline: Ahane 7-3 to Killultra’s 1-3. Ahane Team on the Day: Katie Molloy, Sinead O’Curry, Orla Twomey, Aoife O’Halloran, Niamh O’Curry, Emma Ridder, Sinead Callinan, Sine Hartigan, Aisling Herbert (2-1), Aine Reynolds (3-0), Sinead Meskell, Caoilionn Keane (0-1), Catriona O’Halloran (2-0) and Ailish Reynolds (0-1).

AHANE CAMOGIE: The under-16 girls camogie team had their first outing in the A league on Sunday in Ahane versus Crecora. The team showed good cohesion and team spirit but ultimately could not match their opponents speed and skill levels on the day.

The team was: Emer Kenny, Alana Casey, Kate Herbert, Siabh Moran, Eileen Vaughan, Caoimhe Macken, Aoife Quinn, Niamh Reynolds, Ellen Curtin, Róisin O’Mara, Robyn Nugent, Niamh Martin, Áine O’Curry, Áine Reynolds, Chloe Blake.

ALL SAINTS CHURCH CELEBRATIONS: This year marks 1600 years of Christian worship on the site of All Saints Church Stradbally. To mark this historic occasion there are very special celebrations taking place starting with an Ecumenical Service of Celebration and thanksgiving attended by both bishops, clergy and special representatives on Sunday May 5th at 3.00 pm. All are welcome to celebrate our common Christian heritage.

FR. LIAM LAWTON CONCERT: On Sunday, April 21, at 8.00pm, Caherconlish will have the honour of welcoming Fr. Liam Lawton as he performs in Concert in our Lady Mother of the Church, Caherconlish. Fr. Liam will be joined by local adult and youth choirs under the direction of Valerie Walsh. This concert is being organised by the Parish Pastoral Council, in aid of Caherconlish/ Caherline parish funds.

For the past 20 years Fr. Liam he has been composing sacred and inspirational music and has performed in venues including the Vatican, Carnegie Hall, the White House and the Eucharist Congress held in Dublin. His song Cloud’s Veil was adopted as an anthem across America following 9/11.
