U-21 HURLING: Naomh Brìd and Pallasgreen contested the East B U21 Hurling final on Friday evening in Murroe. The starting line-up of both teams had changed quite a bit from their meeting the previous week due to injuries and suspensions in both camps. Pallasgreen played with the breeze in the first half but their defenders did face into a difficult sun under the high ball.

Naomh Brìd were first on the score sheet when Darren Murphy scored a free from 50 yards out following a foul on Danny Holton. The early exchanges were scrappy and the main scoring opportunities were coming from frees. Liam O’Dea scored four points from placed balls in the opening quarter to give his side a four points to one lead. Danny Holton responded for Naomh Brìd with the pick of the first half scores, he shot over from the sideling 45 yards out. Liam O’Dea was back on the scoresheet for Pallasgreen soon after, this time from play after picking up a loose ball in the middle third. Christian Dwyer then added another for Pallasgreen to open up a four point lead. At the other end, a fine run and handpass by Sean O’Dea led to a Denis O’Dea point. Liam O’Rourke then got on the scoresheet to reduce the margin to two points. A late free from Liam O’Dea left three in it at the break, 0-07 to 0-04.

After the break, Pallsgreen were quick off the mark, a point from Liam O’Dea and then an excellent individual score by Paudie O’Dwyer opened up a comfortable five point lead. Darren Murphy replied with a free for Naomh Brìd but this was as close as they got to Pallasgreen before the end of the game. 15 minutes in, a long clearance by Liam O’Dea led to confusion in the Naomh Brìd full back line and Christian O’Dwyer poked home from close range for the first goal of the game. A Darren Roche point from play and two more frees from Liam O’Dea gave Pallasgreen an unassailable lead. At the other end Darren Murphy and Denis O’Dea picked off scores to leave a final scoreline of 1-12 to 0-07. Pallasgreen were deserved winners on the night and progress to meet the south champions on the weekend of April 14. For them, Darren Cosgrave and Pa Roche were dominant in defence with Liam O’Dea their star man scoring nine points. For Naomh Brìd, Danny Holton had an excellent first half while John Ahern and Denis O’Dea were their most consistent performers throughout.

U-15 FOOTBALL: The U15 footballers played Ballylanders last Wednesday evening in Kilteely in the second round of the football championship. The lads started very well with Jamie McCarthy scoring an excellent goal inside two minutes. He followed up with two points to as did Sean McCarthy, Eamon Murphy, and Fionn Murphy. The quick start took the visitors by surprise and they never really recovered. Jamie McCarthy scored another excellent goal before the break and we led 2-06 to 0-01 at half time.

In the second half, Matthew O’Dea took over where Jamie McCarthy left off in the first, he scored a goal and a point in quick succession. Sean McCarthy added two more points and Brian O’Grady and Jamie MCarthy got one each to seal a comprehensive victory. The U-15 footballers now qualify for the county final which will take place on weekend of May 11. They await their opponents who will be the winners of the other group.
