LARGE CROWDS ATTEND EASTER CEREMONIES : There was very big crowds at the Easter Ceremonies at St. Andrew’s Church last week despite the very cold weather, commencing with Mass of The Last Supper on Holy Thursday 28 March. On Good Friday 29 March, The Liturgy of the Passion was held at 3pm. with Stations of The Cross at 6pm in the cemetery. The Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday 30 April was celebrated at 8pm with a very big congregation. Easter Sunday morning had two masses at 9am and 11am. Along with the local parishioners, many people home on Easter holidays attended as did many parishioners from adjoining parishes. Fr. Michael Hanley PP in the Parish Newsletter at the weekend in Wishing All a Great and Blessed Easter, acknowledged the involvement and co operation of so many people of the Parish in the celebration of the Liturgies of the Easter Week, in particular he thanked all the readers, collectors, altar servers, Sacristan, Kathleen O’Sullivan and Choir and Sr Patricia for the decorating of the Church for all the ceremonies over the Easter weekend. those who took part in the various ceremonies, and all involved in various ways during the Easter Week ceremonies. The Liturgies would be very much lacking if the people of the parish did not attend, so a special word of thanks to all who attended the devotions during the week. The Easter Garden in the Church which is beautifully decorated has once again proved very popular with young and old and the visits are very frequent

KILFINANE TIDY TOWNS : Kilfinane Tidy Towns have commenced their work for the coming year, they are asking that house owners give their support by keeping their properties tidy and weed free. Painting of houses/walls etc. would add greatly to the overall appearance of the town, while window boxes, hanging baskets and flower tubs would be appreciated during the summer time. The Committee need people to join them as there is a lots of work planned for the coming year, from cleaning approach roads, weeding, planting and painting so there is definitely a job to suit everybody. Work began on Monday last 8 April and will continue every Monday evening from 7pm to 9pm, meeting at the Fountain. All are very Welcome, Tidy Towns is for everyone.
BLACKROCK CAMOGIE CLUB : Blackrock Camogie Club will be holding a clothing and textiles collection on this Saturday 13 April, all donations can be dropped to Terry Lynch’s coal store High Street, from 10 am until 2 pm. Your support would be appreciated.
HURLERS IN SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL ON SUNDAY : Blackrock Intermediate hurlers who had a very successful Easter weekend on the hurling field recording two wins in the South Senior Hurling Championship, over Garryspillane on Easter Saturday and Glenroe on Easter Monday will play the holders Croom on this Sunday 14 April in the South Senior Hurling Championship
KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : There were alot of races to keep track of this weekend with the Kilfinane AC crew out in good numbers in races across Limerick, Clare and Cork.
RAHEEN 6K Friday 5 April : A total of 177 runners turned out for the first race in the Feet on the Street Series. Great runs by the Kilfinane AC contingent. DONERAILE 5K Saturday 6 April : Well done to the Kilfinane AC crew who took part in the second of the Doneraile Park 5K series where a big crowd of 270 runners took part in the sunshine. Kilfinane man John Downes ran a tactical race and pulled away from the lead group in the latter stages of the race and was first home in an impressive time of 16:31. Thanks to North Cork AC and Mallow AC who did a great job hosting the event. Well done to Sean’s son Ruairi who was first boy home in an excellent time of 20:42. 10K RACES : Ruairi O Callaghan and Gary Egan had great runs this weekend in separate 10k events. Ruairi ran an excellent time of 38:46 in the Cork BHAA UCC 10k road race and Gary posted another PB of 40:25 in the Cratloe 10K. IMRA : Sean Manning ran the Claragh Mountain race on Sunday 7 April, which was the first race in the IMRA Munster Mountain running championships and got off to a good start with a 11th place finish in the first of 6 championship races.

LIMERICK WEST GIY : Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food will hold its March meeting on Thursday 18 April @ 7.00pm sharp in D & M Garden Centre, Croagh with new growers and old hands all welcome. This months talk will be given by Chris who will speak about companion planting and its benefits. We will also be our second seed / plant swap of the season so please bring any unwanted seeds or excess plants and who knows you might just pick up that seed / plant you have been looking for. There is no need to bring anything if you don’t have spares and you can still take what you see during the swap From June / July we will be taking Limerick West GIY on the road visiting some of the many interesting gardens of other members. If you would like to host a meeting at your garden let us know at the next meeting and a month that would suit.
