SPECIAL CELEBRATION IN ST. FLANNAN’S CHURCH: A special St. Pio Mass will be celebrated in St. Flannan’s Church, Killaloe on this Thursday at 7.30pm. During this Mass, Tom Cooney who has spent his life making Padre Pio accessible to the sick and suffering through his precious relics will kindly donate his Padre Pio mitten to the people of the parish of Killaloe. This mitten will be permanently placed in a Reliquary in St. Pio Shrine in Killaloe Church where people will still be able to seek the Saint’s intersession. Also at Thursday’s Mass people will have the last opportunity to be blessed with this relic.

RECENT DEATH: Francie O’Grady, Ballymalone, Ballina died peacefully at Milford Hospice on Friday, January. Following Requiem Mass in the Church of Our Lady and St. Lua, Francie was laid to rest in Templekelly Cemetery. He is survived by his sisters Kathleen (Kelly) and Mary (Murnane): nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.

COMMUNITY GAMES: Killaloe Community Games committee held its first meeting for 2013 in the Girls’ Primary School Hall recently. Turn out was quite good but, since the committee consists of just five people, more volunteers are necessary for the smooth running of this year’s games. The success of Community Games depends on the support and involvements of parents and members of the community. If you are willing to help please call Deirdre Coleman (087 6838599) or Fiona O’Mahony (087 9257714). On- going information will be given through the local schools in the coming weeks.

GOLF SOCIETY AGM: The annual general meeting of Mills’ Bar Golf Society, “Just One”, will take place on Wednesday, February 13 at 9pm. All members and interested non-members are invited to attend. Please contact Anthony at 087 9034275.

BKBA SECOND WORKSHOP: The first ‘free’ workshop organised by Ballina Killaloe Business Association (BKBA), which was open to thirty people, was held on Tuesday in the Lakeside Hotel. The second workshop, - SEO – is limited to twelve places so immediate booking is essential. FUNDRAISING PROJECT: Transition Year students at St. Anne’s Community College have launched a fundraising campaign in aid of the Cancer Ward at Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Their ‘Cake Sale’ on Friday last was hugely successful and other events will follow in the coming weeks. Your support will be greatly appreciated. Further details will be given next week.

PRIMARY SCHOOL ENROLMENT: Enrolment for young boys and girls wishing to attend the Primary Schools in Killaloe in the 2013-2014 academic year is now open. KILLALOE FOOTPATHS UPDATE: Work resumed on Friday last on the completion of the footpaths on Royal Parade in Killaloe. A spokesperson from Clare County Council has confirmed that works will be shortly finished provided temperatures are suitable and there are no other obstructions to works.

BALLINA GAA: The AGM of Ballina Intermediate Club was held on Friday, January 18. The following officers were elected for the 2013 season: Presidents – JJ Mc Keogh, JJ Maher and Patsy Nevin: Vice Presidents – Frs. Ted O’Rahelly and Enda Brady: Chairperson, Sarah Devane: Vice Chairperson, Peter King: Secretary, John Gleeson: Treasurer, Caroline Mc Keogh: Health and Safety Officer, Ger Hurley: The positions of PRO, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer have still to be filled.

Club membership fee remains at €40 with a range of family packages available through the Juvenile club. Membership fee must be paid by March 31.

BALLINA CAMOGIE AGM: The AGM of Ballina Camogie Club was held on Thursday Jan 24th. The meeting was well attended and the following officers were elected: Chairman, Dave Gilligan: Secretary, Theresa Nevin: PRO, Marie O’Brien: Treasurer, Sharon Donnelly: Registrar, Eugene Power and Child Welfare Officer, Elaine O’Connor. Coaches were appointed to all age groups, and it was agreed that the club would move forward with a Junior team in 2013. Anyone interested in playing or getting involved with the Junior team should contact one of the officers or coaches in the club.
