CASTLECONNELL YOUTH TAKE UP BOXING/KEEP-FIT PROGRAMME: Young people, volunteers and staff at Limerick Youth Services Castleconnell Youth Project took to boxing classes to get fit after the festive period.

Under the instructions of Marty Hannon of THUMP Boxing, the group were put through their paces at Castleconnell Parish Hall.

The aim of the THUMP programme is to use boxing as a means of keeping fit, exhaled an exhausted Martin Duhig, of Castleconnell Youth Project, speaking after one session of the two-day instructors course.

THUMPs training courses have been designed to offer a mix of boxing and fitness training suitable to people who wish to keep fit.

Martin was delighted with the two-day course and is looking forward to building on the experience. Ideally, we would like to establish a community gym where we could continue to run keep fit programmes, added Martin.

If you would like to know more about the programmes available at Castleconnell Youth Project, please contact Limerick Youth Service at lys@limerickyouthservice.com or 061-412444.

Prayer to St.Bridget: You were a woman of peace. You brought harmony where there was conflict. You brought light to the darkness. You brought hope to the downcast. May the mantle of your peace cover those who are troubled and anxious, may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts and in our world. Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made. Bridget you were a voice for the wounded and the weary. Strengthen what is weak within us. Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens. May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body and spirit.

Amen: Saturday, February 2 is the Feast of the Presentation On Saturday we celebrate the Presentation of the child Jesus in the temple, also called CandlemasDay. People bring candles to Mass to have them blessed for use in their homes on many occasions. Mass in Castleconnell 10.30am.

This Sunday, February 3 is the Feast of St. Blaise St. Blaise is the patron Saint of people with sore throats or any other illness. This blessing with specially blessed candles brings us nearer to Jesus who also went about healing the sick with all kinds of illness. Blessing of throats takes place after all Masses.
