WEEKLY NOVENA: Every Tuesday at the 10am and 5.45pm Mass there is a novena celebrated in honour of St. Anthony. All are very welcome to attend. Petition leaflets are available at the statue of St. Anthony. You can leave your petitions there to be included during the novena.

ADORATION: Adoration is held here in the Cathedral from Monday to Saturday. Morning prayer is offered for various needs; Monday is for the dead, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is private intention, Friday is Victims of Abuse, Saturday is Forgiveness for the sins of the Church. Adoration is from 9am to 10am.

BAPTISMS: Baptism’s takes place on Saturday evenings at 4.30pm only. When booking a baptism please call in to St John’s Parish Office and please bring with you the birth certificate of the child. For parents who are not living in St John’s parish you will need a note of permission from one of the priests in your own parish. The baptism preparation meeting will take place the first and third Tuesday of each month evenings in the Parish Centre. Both parents must attend the baptism preparation meeting, this prep meeting must be attended before the baptism can take place, the Godparents are invited to this meeting also. MASS TIMES: Weekdays at 10am and 5.45pm. Saturday at 10am and Vigil at 6pm. Sunday at 8am, 10.30am, 12noon & 7pm. Holy Days of obligation Vigil Mass will be at 5.45pm the previous day (except weekends), on the feast day at 10am, 12noon and 5.45pm.

PARISHIONER: If you have a family member in a nursing home and they would like a visit from one of the priests of St John’s parish then please contact the Sacristan or the Parish Office on 414624

MARRIAGE PREPARATION: The Accord marriage preparation course is the only one which is officially approved by the Limerick Diocese. None of the other courses have official approval even though some of them claim in their advertisement that they have.

TAKE CARE: Just a reminder when visiting or attending the cathedral for Mass never leave personal items or your handbag unattended at any time.

CONFESSION: Confession is available every Saturday morning from 10.30am to 11.30am and before the Vigil Mass from 5.30pm. A priest is also available on request.

LOTTO: The results of Saturday, January 26 were 1, 12, 20 and 26. There was no winner. The draw takes place every Saturday evening, next weeks jackpot will be €10,250 and will take place February 2. NEW BISHOP: The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Fr Brendan Leahy to be the next Bishop of the Diocese of Limerick. The news of Fr Brendan Leahy’s appointment to the See of Limerick is received with great joy throughout the diocese Fr Brendan Leahy is currently Professor of Systematic Theology at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, a renowned Theologian and Ecumenist, with a wealth of pastoral experience including specific ministry to young people.

THE WITNESS: The Witness, a musical in association with the diocese of Limerick on in the Lime Tree theatre, Mary Immaculate College on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at 8pm. TROCAIRE: Clergy and Religi ous Orders donate almost €1m to Trócaire Donations from individual members of the clergy and the Religious Orders to Trócaire amounted to almost €1m in 2012. Members of the clergy donated €765,866 of their own personal income to Trócaire last year, while the Religious Orders made donations amounting to €150,977. “What these figures show is that members of the clergy lead by example when it comes to supporting vital work overseas,” said Justin Kilcullen, Executive Director of Trócaire. “As well as facilitating collections at churches all over Ireland, priests also donate a significant proportion of their own money to help support communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America. This support is absolutely vital in our quest for a just world. As we begin a new year, I would like to thank parishes across the country for their ongoing support, which is changing the lives of the people we work with.”

CANDLEMAS: Saturday, February 2 is the feast of the Presentation of The Lord - Candlemas day. Candles will be blessed at the 10am Mass. If you wish to purchase candles they are available in the gift shop.

ST BLAISE: Sunday, February 3 throats will be blessed for the feast of St Blaise.
