ANNIVERSARIES: On Friday February 1 Months Mind Mass will be celebrated at 7pm in ST Joseph’s Church, Kildimo for Fr Phil McKeogh RIP late of Carheeny Kildimo. On Sunday February 3, the noon Mass in Kildimo will honour the memory of the late Morgan Malone and Eddie Hartney. May they rest in Peace.

ST BLAISE: The blessing of the throats will take place after Masses on Sunday Feb 3 in the parish.

PARISH CLERKS: Those who minister behind the scenes in our parish churches will have collections taken up in both churches next weekend at masses. A golden opportunity to show your appreciation for the unstinting service offered by Ann Hayes, Kildimo and Joan Condon, Pallaskenry.

LÁ LE BRÍD: Visits to local wells dedicated to St Brigid ‘Mary of the Gael’, will take place around her Feastday on February 1. Care should be exercised when visiting the well in Kilbreedy due to the steep descent to the well. Prayers will be conducted by Fr. Donworth P.P.at Cartown well on Sunday February 3 at 3.00 pm.

FIRST FRIDAYS : At ‘De Bucket’ Pub, Ferrybridge Traditional Irish Night commences on this Friday Feb 1st and every First Friday so do go along there & join the fun.

GAA LOTTO: The Jackpot has been won! Audrey O’Connell of Shanpallas predicted the winning combination of numbers 2, 9, 18 & 20 in the draw on January 21. The new Jackpot is now €2,000 and your support of the Lotto is greatly appreciated.

FREE BUSINESS TRAINING: The County Enterprise Board is launching its Spring Schedule of Training Courses, starting with ‘Start your own Business’. This first course begins at Kilmurry Lodge Hotel on February 12 for five consecutive nights and recipients of Social Welfare may attend free by contacting 061 496520. Should you prefer the venue in Kilmallock, the same course is being held there from April 9. The usual fee for the five nights is €50.

GAA EVENTS: The next event on the busy calendar of events is the ‘Table Quiz’, which takes place at the Seven Sisters on February 8.,commencing at 9pm. Tables of foue €40. A Clothes Collection takes place at the Clubhouse from 9 to 16 February between midday and four pm. Membership Fees for 2013 are now due. For adult players the fee is €40 with concessions for unemployed and students at €30. Social members and Under 16 are both €20 and the Family membership is €40. The mountain climb of Carrantuohill in aid of underage games takes place on Saturday March 23. Sponsorship cards may be collected from any club member and juniors just be accompanied. For all participants it would be wise to do some training for the event and have suitable outdoor wear for the occasion. HISTORICAL NEWS: Br John Feheney has made a generous offer to local historians in making available two of his recent works free on his website. The first is in the genre of his Biographical Dictionaries and is devoted to the area of Lower Connello. His second available work will excite his many friends and followers locally as it is devoted to his own personal ‘Memoirs’ and covers his early life from birth in Adare to his years in Ballysteen.
