Church News: Mass in Broadford for the month of February 2013 will be on Saturday evening’s at 7.30pm and on Sunday morning’s at 9.30am. First Friday mass in Broadford is at 7.00pm and in Dromcollogher at 7.30pm.Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in Broadford between 6pm and 7pm. Candlemas Day is on Saturday Feb. 2nd and candles for the church and home will be blessed at all week-end masses. The feast of St. Blaise in on Sunday Feb. 3rd and the Blessing of the Throats will take place at all masses on that day.

Clerks Collection: The annual Church Clerks collection in Broadford will be taken up on next week-end February 9th and 10th at all masses. Your generosity will be appreciated.

Community Alert Meeting: After a spate of robberies and break-in’s in the locally, there will be an important meeting of the Tullaha and District Community Alert Group held on Wednesday evening January 30th in the Day Care Centre Broadford at 8 o’clock. Everybody is invited and all clubs in the area are asked to be represented. The local Gardaí will be in attendance. Anybody who may need a personal alarm system installed or who need to know anything concerning the Community Alert activates, please contact Tom O’Brien or David O’Keeffe.

Enrolment to Broadford National School: Applications for Enrolment in Scoil Mhuire National School Broadford are now being accepted for September 2013. Application forms are available from the school; phone no 063/84214 or E-mail to scoilmhuire@broadford.iol.ie. Closing date for applications is Wednesday 6th February 2013.

Log on and Learn: Transition Year students in Hazelwood College are offering free one to one computer training for those aged 65 and over. Learn how to book flights, surf the Internet or send an E-mail! These user friendly classes will take place on 6 consecutive Thursday afternoons from 2pm to 3pm starting on 31st of January, 2013. As places are limited don’t delay and sign up today by calling Aine on 063/83121.

Friday night Dancing: The Sean Nos and other forms of dancing continue every Friday night in the Community Centre Broadford at 7.30pm. Come along and enjoy a great evening of fun.

Fitness Fun Walks: Calling all ladies and teenage girls who would like to boost their fitness levels. Walking sessions will take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night, starting point GAA field Dromcollogher, walk from 7.15pm to 7.45pm. A great stress buster for students and adults while also improving your general health. No fee involved, wear a high visibility jacket and bring along a friend.

G.A.A. Lottery: There was no winner of the €4,300 jackpot on Monday January 21st at the Corner House. The Match Three prize of €100 was won by Jackie Flynn Feohanagh. The lucky dips prizes of €50 each were won by Joan Browne Killeedy and Mairead Cregan Rowels. The jackpot goes to €4,500 and the Match 3 is €100. All sold tickets to be handed in at the clubhouse on Monday evenings before 9o’clock. Tickets are available from any member of the committee or from all business premises, tickets €2 each or three for a €5.

Victory Social:-The Dromcollogher/Broadford G.A.A. victory social will be held in the Club House Dromcollogher on Saturday February 9th.With three County titles and two West titles won in 2012 it is advisable to book your ticket early. Dinner and dance will be €25. The county titles won were (1) The County Senior football under the management team of Mike Fahy, Ben Noonan and Jorome Stack, where our boys defeated the cream of Limerick football on their way to victory, such as Ballylanders, Monaleen, Ballysteen, St. Senans, Galbally, Fr. Casey’s and Newcastle West in an epic county final which went to a replay and extra time. The Under 21 hurlers under the management team of Gerry Madigan, Seamus Lordan and Tom McLoughlin captured the West and County titles in the “B” championship defeating St. Kieran’s, drew with Strand and defeated Granagh/Ballingarry in the West Final, they continued their winning way’s defeating Croom in the county simi-final and Michael Cusack’s in the final. The minor hurlers under the management of John Stack, James Noonan and Pat Lordan won West and County titles defeating St David’s, Rathkeale/Ardagh and Tournafulla in the West final. They defeated famed Ahane in the county simi-final and Monaleen in the county final. It promises to be a great night of celebrations, so book early and don’t be disappointed.

Community Games: Indoor Soccer- the U10 boys played in Croagh on the 20th of January and they qualified for the next round. The U10 girls played three matches; they won their first match and lost two. Unfortunately they didn’t qualify for the next round. The full squad on the day was Yvonne Stack, Saoirse McCarthy, Mollie McCarthy, Mollie O’Brien, Hannah Brennan and Caoimhe Horan. Coaches on the day were Joan Crooke and Helen McCarthy. Dates for the calendar: Primary school Quiz: 17th February at 3pm in Ballingarry. U10 Talent County: Sunday 24th February. Dance night U14 (including U13 and U12) 22nd February. Semifinals: Talent March 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th. Finals March 22nd and 23rd. Music singing/recitation/drama: one place available in the U14 solo and group singing. U10 and U12 Group Irish dance. U12 solo recitation, U10 and U14 Modern dance. There are two places available in the U10 group music, U10 group modern dance, and U10 and U14 drama. Parent and Toddler Group: the parent and toddler group meet every Thursday in the daycare Centre Broadford from 10:30 to 12 noon. This is an opportunity for parents, grandparents and carers to meet and chat while the children play in a safe environment. All welcome.

Handball: The local Broadford Handball club has won 7 of the 8 County championships up for grabs this year. They are Masters Singles:- Denny McCarthy, Junior Singles :-Seanie Murphy, Junior Doubles Noel Duggan and Seanie Murphy, Intermediate Singles:- John Noonan, Intermediate Doubles :- Pat Murphy and John Noonan, Senior Singles :-Tom O’Brien and the last remaining title is the Senior Doubles and with both finalist from Broadford bidding for honors the title will remain in Broadford. On the Juvenile front eighteen of our under age players have tasted success already and with the remainder to be played in Galbally this week-end we are hoping for the same success as last year. Well done to all.

Cards at Neenans: The winners of the weekly 45 card drive at Neenans on Monday night were Dan Barry and partner. Second were Timmy Murphy and Jim O’Connor. Joe Mullane and John Conway won the spot prize.
