AN online directory of all the community and voluntary organisations in Limerick city is being put together by the Community Forum, so that people have better access to the services available locally.

The last directory was only available on hard copy and is no longer in print, and some organisations that featured in the last directory no longer exist while many new groups, clubs and organisations have been established.

Members of the Community Forum are contacting local organisations to get their details in order to put together a comprehensive database.

It is hoped the project will be completed this year which has been designated the European Year of Volunteering.

“This year gives an excellent opportunity for the people of Limerick to explore the many volunteering organisations, the services they provide and the opportunities they offer for involvement as volunteers,” said Monica O’Brien Smith, a facilitator for Limerick City Community Forum.

“A number of events are being planned to support and celebrate volunteering organisations and their volunteers.”

Plans are already underway for The Limerick Community and Volunteer Fair which takes place on September 25, 2011.

The Limerick Volunteer Centre is a collaboration between PAUL Partnership, Ballyhoura Development and West Limerick Resources. Anyone who is interested in volunteering, or any organisations seeking volunteers can log onto www.volunteerlimerick.ie.
