NEW CANON: Fr Michael Fitzgerald PP Mitchesltown was appointed Canon at a ceremony in Cobh on November 25. Fr Fitzgerald has been attached to Mitchesltown for the past 10 years. In 2008 he was appointed Parish Pries and now Canon. The newly appointed Canon is very well known throughout the Diocese and is very popular within the Parish and further afield.

FOOTBALLERS IN CO FINAL: Mitchelstown’s Junior footballers remain on course for a Co Junior A league and championship double when they edged out a gallant Kilmurry side in the Co JAFL semi final at Mourneabbey on Monday night by the narrowest of margins.

The final score was 0 -14 to 0- 13. ‘Town now meet Bandon in the Co final. ST. FANAHAN’S HURLERS LOSE OUT: St Fanahan’s College senior (D) hurlers were well beaten by Colaiste Ghobnatan in the Co final at CIT Grounds on Friday night last. At half time the Mid Cork side were 4 -11 to 0-5 clear. St. Fanahan’s had two goals in the second half but the outcome was never in doubt. THE LATE NUALA STACK: The death occurred on November 22 of Nuala Stack (Nee Wiley) at Cork University Hospital. The late Nuala well known locally having resided with her family at 3 Ballinwillin. There was a large and represented attendance at the removal from teh family home on Saturday and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Sunday. Interment took place to Brigown New Cemetery. To her husband Michael, daughters Carol (Rathcliffe) Michelle, Olive, son Jimmy, brother Eddie, sisters Maureen Walsh and Margaret (Anne), daughter in law, son in law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
