CHRISTMAS BINGO: On Monday 9th December the Hospital Bingo will have a first prize raffle of a 32” TV, This will continue on the 16th and 23rd December with the final raffle free, there will be other prizes of cash, hams and hampers.

GAA: The senior board AGM will take place this Thursday 5th December in the clubhouse, Hospital at 8pm. All welcome as they plan for 2014.

Congratulations to the John the Baptist Community School team who won the Munster hurling final recently and especially to the Hospital/Herbertstown representatives, Diarmuid Quirke, Michael Whelan and Tadhg Leddin

Also well done to Killian O’Shea who was part of the South Limerick Primary School football team who claimed the Sarsfield Cup under lights in the Gaelic Grounds.

BORD NA NoG: The 2014 calendar is now on sale in local shops and also at Thursday;s indoor hurling. They will also be on sale after Mass in Herbertstown hall this weekend. There are some lovely team and action photos from during the past year which will make very nice Christmas presents for all, they are priced at €5.

The AGM for Bord na nOg was held last Friday in the clubhouse, Hospital where a large crowd attended. Secretary Ann Maire Bagnell gave a very comprehensive report on the years activities. Treasurer Colette Real gave a run down on the club’s finances for the year where club income and expenditure increased hugely this year on the back of a lot of work and changes. After chairperson Padraig O’Dea’s address election of officers and committee took place, where all three officers and committee committed to continue for another year to continue the work and plans that were put in place during the year to bring the club and players standards to levels to where they can compete at the top.

Next year will be very important at Bord na nOg level and hopefully everyone will help out and with the support of all parents and players the club will reach its aims.

Indoor hurling every Thursday in the school gym 6 – 7 for U7s and 7 – 8 for U8s to U11s, all welcome.

HOSPITAL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE: 2013 was a very busy year for the Centre. Since the Autumn Update all of the Adult Education and Leisure courses have been in full swing. “My Time” Afterschool Childcare Service held a very successfull themed Circus Week with jugglers, snakes, clowns and lots of children enjoying the activities. The Centre highlighted Mental Health Week in October and ran two significant events. A Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) workshop was delivered here in the centre and this was complementated by the Step Forward Group’s presentation on “Mental Illness” Re-enchantment with Life” by Doctor Michael Watts in Kilmallock. The Men’s Group Furniture Resrotation is coming to a close with many of the pieces restored to their former glory. Paarents and Toddlers Groups throughout the community had wonderful Halloween Parties and like us all are now awaiting the arrival of the big man from the North Pole. Of course non of this would be possible without the support of all staff and volunteers and their funders and partner organisations such as Ballyhoura Development Ltd., the VEC and the HSE.

Christmas Parties with Santa will take place in all groups, beginning with a pre-celebration and letter delivery Wednesday 4th December, organised by Retail Skills Course.

TALKING TO TEENS PROGRAMME: This programme has been designed for parents to enchance and support their relationships with their adolescents. the programme will commence again in 2014 on Tuesday mornings. (start date to be confirmed)

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES PROGRAMME: Eight families joined this programme in November 2013 for 14 weekly sessions covering family skills training in communication, limit setting, drug and alcohol use, problem solving, family meeting etc. The current programme will run until March 2014.

A Christmas celebration will be held in the centre Thursday December 12 from 12.00 for the entire community including all our volunteers, students, groups and patrons

Rainbows: Hospital Family Resource Centre are delighted to offer children and young people who have experienced loss due to separation of bereavement an opportunity to participate in our second 12 week Programme starting in 2014. This is a chance to chat and share with other children who have had similar experiences.

Well done to the children who have taken part in the first programme. It is important to note that this is a confidential and free service offered to all children.

CURRENT AND UPCOMING EVENTS: The Drama Group are showcasing their production on Wednesday 4 December at 7pm. the centre hope to run Drama again in 2014. If you want to develop your drama and communication skills in a fun, safe and creative environment, this is for you. the main focus of the course is to build confidence and develop acting skills through the medium of drama, games, group work, story-telling, mime and much more. Fun is the key word to describe this course.

My-Time After Schools Childcare Service: October saw the running of a very successful circus week event for the children. The centre would like to express gratitude to all parents and children for your support during this important week and also for your support throughout the year.
