CARDS: The results from last weeks card game at Monagea Parish Hall were 1st and 2nd divided four ways with eight games each, Niall Scanlon and Jamie Dore, Mary Roche and Rita Corkery, Jer and Mary Collins, Peter Culhane and Bridget Kenny. Table prizes James Cribben and Con Cregan, Bobby Mullane and Danny Barry, Eileen Sugrue and Kathleen O’Gorman. Raffle James Cribben, Bobby Mullane, John Casey, Kathleen O’Gorman. The card game continues every Wednesday night at 9pm.

AFTERNOON TEA DANCE: Another very big crowd attended last Sundays Afternoon Tea Dance at Monagea Parish Hall. A very enjoyable evening was had by all. The floor was full for every dance to the music of Michael Sexton. As this was the last dance before Christmas the committee would like to wish all our supporters a very happy Christmas. The next Afternoon Tea Dance in Monagea will be on Sunday January 5th.

ZUMBA DANCING: Zumba dancing classes will commence in Monagea Parish Hall on tonight, Thursday December 5th, at 7pm. This is the first time that Zumba has been taught in Monagea so why not come along and enjoy yourself.

NATIONAL SCHOOL CONCERT: The annual Monagea National School concert is usually one of the highlights of the year for most of the students. Because of the huge crowds that attend this concert each year the school have decided to do two shows. The first is a matinee at 1pm on this Thursday December 5 and the second is at 7pm on Friday December 6. It is hoped that some parents and grandparents will be able to attend on Thursday so that it will be less crowded on Friday night.

DRAW: The third draw in the Monagea GAA 300 club will take place at the Pub, Raheenagh, on this Saturday night December 7th at 7pm. The club are asking all promoters to collect any outstanding money before this draw. The final draw will also take place before Christmas.

RAMBLING HOUSE: A big crowd attended the November Rambling House at Monagea on Thursday night last. Once again many outstanding musicians, singers, storytellers and dancers were present. A great night’s entertainment was had by all. We will not be holding a Rambling House in December as it is too near Christmas. The next Rambling House will be on Monday January 20th 2014. Everyone welcome either as a performer or a member of the audience. The committee would like to wish all our supporters a very Happy Christmas.

COLLECTION: On last weekend a collection was taken up for the St Vincent De Paul Society and masses in Monagea. The organisers would like to thank everyone who donated so generously. All the money collected will go to local needy families. The work of the society is particularly important at this time of year. Many thanks also to those who helped at the collection.

CEILI: The annual Monagea dancing class Christmas Ceili will be held in Monagea Parish Hall on this Friday night, December 6 at 10pm. Music will be provided by Michael Sexton. Over the years this has been an outstanding night’s entertainment and no doubt this year will not be an exception.

CHARITY AFTERNOON TEA DANCE: A charity Afternoon Tea Dance will be held in Fr Casey’s GAA clubhouse on this Sunday December 8th from 3 to 6pm. Music will be provided by Donie Walsh. The money raised will go to the Ray of Sunshine Foundation when there locals Patrick Lenihan, Seamus Hickey and Mary Barry will go to Mombasa in Kenya to help build schools. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

GIFT VOUCHER SCHEME: Newcastle West and District Chamber of Commence in Association with Newcastle West Business Association have launched a gift voucher scheme. Vouchers for €10, €20 and €50 are available at Tony Hayes News agency in the Square and these can be redeemed at many outlets around the town. It is hoped that this scheme will provide a boost to local shops around Christmas. Buying a voucher makes Christmas shopping much easier and allows the receiver to buy something they need. Your support will help many retailers in these challenging times.

CHRISTMAS RECITAL: The annual Newcastle West Lions Club Christmas Recital in Newcastle West church will take place on Thursday December 12th at 8pm. This year two locals will be the lead performers. Anne Whelan, international violinist, is a native of Castlemahon and Tenor Brian Hartnett is a native of Newcastle West. Desmond College Choir, with Jean O’Brien on Piano, will also perform. There is no fixed admission price and there will be a bucket collection for local charities.

BORD NA NÓG: The AGM of Monagea Bord na nÓg took place recently. The club would like to thank everyone who helped in any way with the running of the club during 2013. The following officers were elected: Chairman Kevin Hogan, Vic Chairman David Baynham, Secretary Michelle O’Connor, Assistant Secretary Tom O’Connor, Treasurer Kevin Shanahan, and PRO Claire Scanlon.

There is a jam packed programme that includes an art exhibition, Christmas markets, food trail, recitals by the Belfast Chime & Handbell Choir, Living Crib, Family Sunday, falconry display & lots lots more!
