GATHERING COMMITTEE NIGHT OUT: We met up every Monday night from January to July and those on the different sub committees met another night as well. Our hard work paid off and we had a wonderful festival last July but we’ve hardly gotten together since. All during those dark winter nights when it would have been much nicer to stay home and warm our feet in the ashes we promised that we’d get together and have a party paid for out of the profits. It never happened! We had the party last Saturday night and paid for it ourselves because the few bob we have left over is going to hosting another festival next July. We had a lovely dinner in Leens Hotel with wine sponsored by Olive – one of the hardworking committee who organised the battle of the parishes held during the Gathering. Jim O’Connor, our Chairman, said a few words about the voluntary effort by the different groups, thanked the Gardai for all the help they gave to enable the Festival and the Search and Rescue for their assistance and the use of their space on Killarney Road. Then we sat back and tossed some ideas around for ‘Gather by the Feale 2014’. Watch this space for details but you’re getting plenty of warning– don’t book holidays or day trips or silage or turf cutting around the third week in July and invite all the relations home for that week. It’ll be dynamite.

We also have one brand new, child’s Spanish guitar left for €49. Our books are still only 50 cent each and we also have some gift sets left mostly priced at €3 or €4. We are always delighted to receive donations of clothing, footwear, bags, working toys and bric a brac. We regret that we are unable to accept old duvets, pillows, broken toys or electrical items. As we have no means of recycling these items, the charity has to pay to dispose of them. Thank you for your continued support and good luck with all your Christmas preparations.”
