Birthday Wishes: Congratulations and best wishes to Con Cremin, Kilcolman, who celebrated his 60th birthday at a party in the Shannon House Foynes, on Saturday 30th November.
Retirement: John Ahern from Main Street, Ardagh recently retired as a teacher from Scoil Mocheallóg Kilmallock. A number of presentations were made to John from the Board of Management, and from staff members, of the school at a function.
Best P.R.O. Award: Congratulations to Catherine Hayes, Secretary and PRO of the Saint Kieran’s Community Games area covering Ardagh, Carrigkerry, Coolcappa, and Kilcolman, on her latest award. She received the best PRO Award for large areas in County Limerick at a recent meeting. Catherine is a fantastic community person and a dedicated sports worker for the youth of the region. This latest award is true recognition for her tireless work in promotion Community Games in the area.

Comhaltas: The annual Limerick County Comhaltas Convention was held in the Woodlands House Hotel Adare on Wednesday 13th November. Brian O’Sullivan from the Ardagh/Carrigkerry branch was re-elected to the position of Oifig Ceoil. Marietta Downey from Coniger, and Ballysteen branch stepped down as auditor after giving many years of service at county board level.
Trocaire: The sum of € 700 was collected at masses in Ardagh/Carrigkerry over the weekend o November 16 and 17. It has been forwarded to Trocaire to help the people of Syria, recover from the recent troubles in their country.
Gaelic Games: Saint Kieran’s drew with Feale Rangers 1-13 to 3-7 in Round 4 of the County U-21 Football Championship at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale, on Friday 22nd November. The result sees the team advance to the quarter final of the Championship. Saint Kieran’s led by 1-6 to 1-4 at half time. With Sean Mc Sweeney scoring the goal following the throw in. They increased the lead to 6 points but the concession of 2 goals left Feale Rangers, back level entering the closing stages. The lead was exchanged before Feale Rangers hit the equalizer with the last kick of the game. Saint Kieran’s lost to Saint Senan’s by 5-11 to 1-7 in the County Minor Football 13 a side Championship at Foynes Gaelic Grounds on Saturday 23rd November.
West Limerick defeated South Limerick by 4-2 to 1-1 in the Peil Na mBan Primary Schools Interdivision Larkin Shield Final at the Gaelic Grounds Limerick on Tuesday 19th November. Iris Kennelly from Ardagh N.S.was the captain and Sophie Liston from Killoughteen N.S. scored 3-1. Old Mill ladies club had four members playing Iris Kennelly, Sophie Liston, Niamh Foley, and Holly Meredith.
Saint Kieran’s are holding their AGM on this Saturday 7th December, in Ardagh Hall.
Soccer News: Carrig Celtic lost 2-0 away to Avenue United of Ennis in Round 4 of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday 24th November. Old Mill lost by 5-1 at home to Saint Ita’s in Round 1 of the Division 1 League Cup.
Creeves Celtic lost 4-3 at home to Kilcornan in Division 2 of the Desmond League. James Naughton, 2 and Pa Ahern scored their goals. They are now in second place on the table after the defeat.
Creeves Celtic B lost 7-0 away to Ballysteen in Round 2 of the Richard Hogan Cup.
Sympathy: We extend our sympathy to Kathleen, and Joe Hayes, and family Carnagh, on the death of Kathleen’s father Con O’Regan.
We extend sympathy also to the Histon family Briska, Shanagolden, on the death of their mother Kit nee Dunne, who was a native of Knockfinisk. May they rest in Peace.
Hospice Collection Thanks: The Sister’s of the Little Company of Mary together with Milford Hospice Friend’s Association, wish to thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously towards the annual Church gate collection taken up before Mass held at Kilcolman, on Saturday 16th November, collecting €229.14 and on Sunday 17th November at Coolcappa, collecting € 355.07. A special thanks to the collectors, who gave of their time to take up the collection.
Shoe Box: A huge thanks is extended from the Shoebox Christmas Appeal to the children, parents, teachers, and staff of Kilcolman N.S. for donating gift-filled shoeboxes for needy children in Eastern Europe.
Tribute Night: A tribute night for Tim Crowley, Ballylin, Ardagh, who recently retired as Principal of Ardagh National School will be held in Ardagh Community Centre on Friday December 6 at 8.pm. Parents and friends are invited to attend to show their appreciation for the work he has done for the school and the community in general. Tim received his education in Ardagh N.S. Copsewood College, and Saint Patrick’s T.C. During his long career in teaching he has promoted participation in the Primary School games for boys and girls, and has been rewarded with many successes. He has also been involved as a selector/ mentor with the West Limerick School’s teams who have won County titles. Tim has been deeply involved as a volunteer in his local community for many years. A man for all seasons he has been associated with the local GAA club as a dual player, selector coach manager and officer. He has also represented the club successfully in Scór competitions, winning West and County honours. He has represented Limerick in U-21 and senior football as well as U-21 hurling and he had the honour of being captain of the football team in 1982. He enjoyed a very successful playing career from 1968 to 1991winning numerous West and County titles, as well as Munster college honours. His favourite position on the field was centre field and his other interests outside the GAA include horse racing and golf. He was secretary of Saint Kieran’s from 1983 to 1985 and Chairman from 1985 to 1988.
Tim has a big interest in politics and has been involved in the Ardagh Fianna Fail Cumann for many years. He was a founding member of Ardagh Drama Group and played the part of the Bishop in their first production of Moll. He was a founding member of Ardagh Development Association in 1992 and the Chairman, which helped to change and upgrade the appearance of the Village. He has been a member of the Hall Committee helping with the weekly card game, and many other events too numerous to mention. Tim has invested a lot of time and made a big contribution to so many clubs and organizations over the years. This Friday night people have an opportunity to show their appreciation to Tim by showing up in large numbers at Ardagh Community Centre. A number of presentations will be made to Tim during the evening which will also include entertainment and refreshments.
Christmas 45 Drive: The annual Christmas 45 Card Drive will be held in Shanagolden Hall on this Friday 6th December at 9pm sharp. A total of € 2,000 in prize money will be paid out and teas will be served. The admission will be € 15 and there will also be a raffle for valuable prizes, and all card players are welcome to attend.
Saint Vincent de Paul Society: The annual Saint Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal collection takes place at all masses in Ardagh/Carrigkerry on the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 7th /8th December.
Carrig Celtic Santa: Carrig Celtic AFC are hosting Santa in his grotto in the Community Centre Carrigkerry on Sunday 8th December, from 4pm. It will be followed by fun and games, prizes, and mini disco.
Coolcappa Sale of Work: The annual Sale of Work will be held in Coolcappa Community Centre from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday December 8. Santa will pay a special visit to meet all the children at 2.30pm. The many stall will be selling Christmas Yule logs, home baked goods and preserves, bric-a-brac, ant the Wheel of Fortune will be in operation. The following items would be greatly appreciated for the bric-a-brac stall: glass, pottery, cutlery, costume jewellery, candles, vintage, clothing, ornaments, books, photo frames, etc. Items can be collected within a reasonable distance, or dropped to Rosemary Enright at 085-1688307 or Deirdre Downes at 087-6415449.
Ardagh N.S.Parents Council: The Ardagh N.S.Parents Council are holding a clothes collection for new and used clothes, among other items on Thursday December 12. Leaflets will be distributed with full details of what can be donated. If you wish to donate any bags before the date, you may give them to any committee member, or else bring them to the school on the morning of December 12th All funds collected will be donated to the school.
