BALLYBROWN PARISH JOURNAL: It’s that time of year again when the editorial committee of the Ballybrown Journal, Tom Donovan, Mike McNamara, Des Fitzgerald, Carl Musgrave, Martin Hayes and Willie Ryan commence work on this year’s edition which will be on the shop shelves by the first weekend in December. Anyone wishing to have wedding, graduation and baby pictures included please contact Des Fitzgerald or any committee member. We are always looking for old photographs for the Journal and we are convinced that there are many gems still out there lurking in drawers and albums waiting to be uncovered and brought to life in the pages of the Journal. Anyone wishing to have an advert included are welcome to do so. The cost of the advertisements are as follows: €40 for 1/4 page, €60 for 1/2 page and €100 for full page. The Journal is a totally voluntary project and is now in its thirteenth year with the proceeds from the sales going to the Ballybrown Pioneer Lourdes Fund. All the organizations in the Parish are requested to forward their articles to Tom Donovan on or before Monday, October 7 which is the deadline for receipt of items. Jim O’Farrell our resident Journal cover artist is off to Calcutta shortly to do some voluntary work and teaching and we wish Jim best wishes for a safe journey and that he will be back in time for the launch. FAREWELL FR MUIRIS: As you are all well aware by now Fr Muiris O’Connor who has been our Parish Priest for the past seven years is leaving us shortly. He will be celebrating his final mass in Ballybrown Church on Saturday, September 28 at 8pm. It is hoped that a large congregation will turn out for this special mass to ensure that we give a big Ballybrown farewell to Fr Muiris. Fr Muiris is leaving us to take up residence in Askeaton to work with the group of Parishes in that Pastoral area. Fr Muiris was a very unassuming person and his humble presence endeared him to everyone. As a priest he was involved in a lot of key moments in the lives of many of his parishioners. He showed great leadership and had a great ability to interact with all groups from the very young to the elderly. In addition he was always available to his Parishioners to help with a variety of their needs and concerns. He did a great deal of work in terms of the maintenance of both Ballybrown and Patrickswell churches. He was one of the main driving forces behind the building of the new Ballybrown Resource Centre which opened its doors for business recently and is a credit to all concerned with its development. We are sorry to see Fr Muiris go from us but we wish him well in his new position and every health and happiness for the future. Some light refreshments will be provided in the new Resource Centre nearby after Fr Muiris’s final mass on Saturday, September 28 and everybody is invited to come along to that.

POP UP SHOP: A pop up shop will be open next Saturday, September 28 in Patrickswell Village, opening at 10am till 6pm. Everything from an needle to an anchor for sale. All goods in excellent condition. Super bargains for all ages. The shop is located on the main street in Patrickswell next door to the Centra store. Clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, pots n pans, garden equipment, furniture, toys etc. all for sale at fantastic prices. Tea, coffee and home bakes for sale also. Hamper for raffle also on the day. All proceeds go to Fr. Derek Leonard and Fr. David Costellos mission in Peru and St. Josephs Orphanage in Romania. A huge thank you to John Leddin Tool Hire Patrickswell who gave the use of his premises free of charge. So come along and join in the shopping spree, something for everybody.

TIDY TOWNS: The Tidy Towns results for Clarina for 2013 showed an improvement of 15 marks on 2012, bringing the score to 240. The Tidy Towns Group would like to thank everyone who supported the group during the year. It has taken a lot of hard work to bring us to where we are and it is great that it is reflected in the results of the competition. We are currently going through the report to put together a plan for 2014! The Tidy Towns Group are holding a church gate collection on October 5 and 6, 2013. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
