GAA NEWS: Pallasgreen’s second relegation playoff in two weeks took place last Saturday in Feenagh, where we took on Mountcollins to decide which team would retain their senior status for 2014. Pallasgreen started early with two good points from Aidan Shanahan and Kevin Barry, but their play was disrupted by an early injury to Tony McMahon, who was performing very well from centre forward. Midway through the half, a goal and a point from Mountcollins put them ahead, however the Pallas men never dropped their heads and replied with a number of points of their own to leave the sides tied at half time 1-5 to 0-8. Early in the second half Pallasgreen scored what was to prove the decisive score, whit Alan Wallace setting up Wayne McCarthy whose low shot beat the Mountcollins goalkeeper to rest in the far corner of the net for Pallasgreen’s goal. Shortly after Denis O’Connor made an important save at the other end deflecting a powerful close-range shot wide for a 45. After that the two teams traded points for the rest of the game, leaving the final score at 1-13 to 1-10 in favour Pallasgreen. Scorers were: Kevin Barry 0-5 (3 frees), Aidan Shanahan 0-4 (2 frees), Wayne McCarthy 1-1, Seamus Mulcahy 0-2, Eddie Mulcahy 0-1.
