Dan was a native of Kinsale Co. His remains were removed from Sextons Funeral Home to Our Lady of the Snows Broadford for his Requiem Mass con-celebrated by Fr. F. O’Dea P.P. assisted by Fr. P. De Búrca and afterwards he was laid to rest in the family grave in Ringrowen Graveyard near Kinsale. To the rest of his extended family, neighbours and friends we extend our sympathy. Trip to Athlone: The Broadford and District Active Retirement Association annual day out this year is to the famous town of Athlone on the river Shannon and there are some seats still available. Contact Ita O’Keeffe at 063/84154. The day begin with the bus leaving Broadford at 8.30am, we will have our first stop at the South Court Hotel in Limerick, then on to the N7 to Nenagh, we will then take the N52 via Borrisokane to Birr where we will have our breakfast in Dooleys Hotel. Next on the road will be a visit to historic Clonmacnoise on the banks of the Shannon where St. Ciarán had an early Christian Monastic settlement and the site has a number of well-preserved Round Towers and High Crosses as well as an Interpreter Centre which is a must visit for everybody. We then drive through Cloghan, on to Ferbane and then the center of Ireland which is Athlone with its famous bridge where Patrick Sarsfield and Sargent Costume (the army Barracks in Athlone is named after him) fought to hold off the Williamite army after the Battle of the Boyne. Here, for the adventurous seafaring among us, we have an optional cruise on the majestic Shannon and of course we have several Shopping Outlets and Boutiques to browse through in the town itself. On the return journey we pass through Tullamore, the chief town of Co, Offaly, on to Kilcormac and back to Dooleys Hotel in Birr for dinner, afterwards we head for Roscrea, on to the N7 to Limerick and home again hopefully well contended after our trip.
