WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: On Friday March 1, women (and men as well) come together throughout the world to pray, to express the desires of their hearts to God. Traditionally here in Adare the different Christian Denominations host the day of prayer – this year it is the turn of Holy Trinity Church. You are welcome at 10.30am in church and for light refreshments afterwards in the Heritage Centre.
ADARE COMMUNITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICE: The Adare Community Council have now set up a Community Information Office based in the Village Hall. ADARE UNITED TABLE QUIZ: Adare United will be holding a table quiz on Saturday March 2 in Sean Collins Bar at 8.30 p.m. Entry fee will be €40.00 for a team of four.
ADARE IS THE PLACE TO BE ON ST PATRICK’S DAY: St.Patrick and his snake are to re-appear at the Village Hall at 3pm. Richard from I love limerick and Lydia Turley Miss Spin South West are coming to Adare especially to judge “Adare’s best dressed Leprechaun”, another first for the Village. It is strongly rumoured that the winner will get a large pot of gold. All this as well as local musicians, set dancing, sean nos dancing & the CBS pipe band. At 8pm the Village Hall hosts the winners of “A Joke for Limerick Competition” The top twenty entrants will get the chance to appear in the competition’s grand final on St Patrick’s Night in Adare Village Hall alongside local comedy acts, visiting act Sonny Egan, and musicians of north Kerry rambling house fame. This promises to be a great night’s entertainment. Tickets €10 with proceeds going towards providing respite care for special needs children and the upkeep of Adare Village Hall. ADARE CLOTH OF PAIN: During Lent, the Adare Parish Liturgy Committee want to put together a ‘Cloth of Pain’ representing the pain and hurt of parishioners and to bring it to Jesus on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We ask you to donate pieces of cloth (8-10inches sq. approx.) which will be made into a patchwork quilt. A basket will be left in front of the altar. There will be a special service on Friday 22 March in Holy Trinity Abbey Church based on the theme ‘The Seven Last Words’ of Jesus from the cross.
KNOCKFIERNA RAMBLING HOUSE: The very popular Knockfierna Rambling House will hold a special night of storytelling, music, singing etc at Kilfinny Community hall on Friday March 1 at 8pm. So mark your diary for what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment. There is no admission fee. All are welcome.
ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: Adare Mother and Toddler Group is held in the upstairs room in the Heritage Centre. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in the afore mentioned age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! JOEY HANNAN MEMORIAL RUN / WALK: St. Patrick’s Day 17 March in Croom It is that time of year again and we the committee have being working behind the scenes organising a great day’s events in memory of Joey. The Walk will start at 1:15 pm while the runners get off at 2 pm. After the walk/race prize giving will take place between 3:30 and 4 pm. Teas and sandwiches will be provided for all. On St. Patrick’s night there will be an ‘Irish Night’ also in Colaiste Chiarain, Croom and all are welcome to attend where we will have traditional entertainment, €5 admission.
THE WITNESS: The Witness, a musical by Carol & Jimmy Owens, is the story of Jesus, told and sung by Peter and the other men and women who knew the Master best. Featuring a great cast and coordinated by Fr. Terry Loughran. “The Witness” will be presented by the Diocese of Limerick, in the Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 March at 8pm. This production which is being staged just before Easter is an ideal opportunity for parishes, youth groups, as well as individuals to participate in a meaningful and relevant way in the Year of Faith and to enter into the spirit of the season of preparation for the events of Holy Week. There are a wide variety of artisan, homemade goods for sale which including Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Home Baking, Handknits, Handmade Greeting Cards and Jewellery, Free Range Eggs, Homemade Jams (Seasonal), Handmade Crafts including an Alterations Service.
